Blake Lively's former Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-stars have come to her support after she filed a s*xual harassment complaint against Justin Baldoni. In a joint Instagram statement shared on December 22, 2024, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel, and Amber Tamblyn wrote:
"As Blake's friends and sisters for over twenty years, we stand with her in solidarity as she fights back against the reported campaign waged to destroy her reputation."
Lively, who played Bridget Vreeland, along with Bledel, Tamblyn, and Ferrera, starred in the 2005 coming-of-age comedy-drama Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Earlier this year Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni starred in the film It Ends With Us, which Baldoni directed. In the lawsuit, Lively alleged Baldoni launched a smear campaign against her after she accused him of s*xual harassment during filming, as reported by People.
"We saw her summon the courage to ask for a safe workplace"—Bledel, Tamblyn, and Ferrera praise Blake Lively's efforts and struggle
Bledel, Tamblyn, and Ferrera's statement continued:
"Throughout the filming of It Ends with Us, we saw her summon the courage to ask for a safe workplace for herself and colleagues on set, and we are appalled to read the evidence of a premeditated and vindictive effort that ensued to discredit her voice."
It Ends With Us is a drama centered around domestic violence, starring Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively in the lead roles. While promoting the film, the actress faced criticism for making it seem light-hearted and not taking the domestic abuse narrative seriously. She also encountered backlash for promoting her haircare line and drink brand during the film's promotion.
At the time, Lively took to her Instagram stories to support domestic violence victims and shared a link to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. In August 2024, The Hollywood Reporter published an article alleging conflict between Lively and Baldoni but did not elaborate on its causes.
In her lawsuit, Blake Lively claimed that she reported Justin Baldoni's alleged misconduct to her fellow producers. This included showing her explicit images and videos, asking about her personal life, and adding intimate scenes in the movie that she originally didn't agree to. People magazine, quoting the legal document, reported that some of the actress' changes included:
"No more personal, physical touching of, or s*xual comments by, Mr Baldoni or Mr, Heath to be tolerated by (Blake Lively) and/or any of her employees, as well as any female cast or crew without their express consent."
In response, Baldoni's company, Wayfarer Studios, added an addendum to the film's contract to implement safeguards on set, adding she would not be retaliated against for the same. However, Lively claimed the actor retaliated against her by hiring a crisis PR expert and launching a smear campaign.
The statement from Blake Lively's Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-stars further explained that it was "upsetting" that the narrative "exploit(ed)" stories of DV survivors to "silence a woman who asked for safety," calling it hypocritical. The statement continued:
"We are struck by the reality that even if a woman is as strong, celebrated, and resourced as our friend Blake, she can face forceful retaliation for daring to ask for a safe working environment."
They praised Blake Lively for standing up and urged people to read her complaint before criticizing the actress.
Lively claimed that as a result of the PR campaign against her, she has suffered "grief, fear, trauma, and extreme anxiety." Her lawsuit alleged that it has impacted her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and children.
Justin Baldoni's lawyer has publicly refuted the claims on his behalf.
