After serving six months in jail, well-known Nigerian crossdresser and social media personality Idris Okuneye also referred to as Bobrisky in the entertainment world, was released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Monday, August 5.

As shown in a widely shared video on X, the social media personality was escorted out of the penitentiary facility while their family, some media representatives, and fans waited for them. They have been trending on the social media site ever since.

Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, better known online as Bobrisky is a prominent figure on social media in Nigeria. They were born on August 31, 1991, and identify as transgender. Additionally, they became popular on TikTok in 2021 after inventing the "bobrisky" dance.

Furthermore, Premium Times also reported that the influencer acknowledged being a guy at their sentencing despite identifying as a woman.

Bobrisky completed their secondary education at King's High School and Okota High School. They then went on to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to earn a Bachelor of Science in accounting.

They gained popularity on social media and now enjoy a sizable social media following. They became well-known for using social media to record their transition and their choice to come out as a male-to-female transgender person and accept it in public.

According to Asaase Radio, the influencer was raised in a Muslim home. At sixteen, they were on their own because their father was unable to provide for their huge family. Furthermore, they reportedly had plastic surgery on July 8, 2021, to change their appearance and make it more feminine.

Bobrisky's most successful business venture is selling skin-lightening lotions. They also sell watches, human hair weaves, makeup, fashionable clothing, and other items. They are also a social media influencer and beauty therapist.

Early in 2016, they were motivated to sign up for Snapchat in order to market their skin-bleaching treatments and other goods. Thanks to the business, they became a Nigerian internet sensation in October and November 2016. They debuted in Nollywood with the film Ojuloge Obirin in 2017.

Later, they traveled to the US as a guest for numerous events, including club appearances and private one-on-one meetings, and amassed enormous popularity and wealth in the process.

They have also supported LGBTQ rights in Nigeria and gave money to supporters in need as part of their charitable endeavors. Additionally, they have grown to be a significant figure in the LGBTQ community and have used their position to promote equality and acceptance. Moreover, they have also influenced pop culture and social media in Nigerian society.

However, they recently faced backlash as a Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced them to six months in prison for manipulating and misusing the Naira, the Nigerian currency. A person who tampers with a Naira note or coin is guilty of an act that is penalized by law in Nigeria.

Following an EFCC investigation, Bobrisky was taken into custody in early April 2024. The accusations originated from footage on social media that seemed to show them tossing cash into the air during a movie premiere the month before.

On April 5, 2024, they pled guilty to four counts of currency abuse. This violation has a maximum sentence of six months in jail without the possibility of a fine. Bobrisky was freed on August 5, 2024, from prison.

In a video following their release, the contentious crossdresser stated that individuals shouldn't spray money and avoid landing in prison. They further clarified that they intended to concentrate on their positive vibes and the individuals who supported them during their arrest.

They said that they were glad to come back and that a lot had transpired while they were away. Additionally, they stated in the same video,

“I’ve missed you guys so much. I can’t wait to have you guys and give you guys what you have missed.”

On the other hand, their family members didn’t say anything about the whole incident.
