On Monday, January 6, Cesily Collette Taylor—the young Wicked actress—caught the attention of many on the Golden Globes Red Carpet. Per a Pure Wow article published earlier today, Taylor appeared at the award ceremony in a polka-dotted puffy-sleeve dress, with her shoulder-length curls braided in white clips and a white pearl attached to the seat of her wheelchair.

Cesily Collette Taylor played the character of Elphaba's six-year-old paraplegic sister, Nessarose, in Wicked. Following the release of the Jon M. Chu movie, the actress has become an online sensation for her one-word dialogue delivery.

Per a Yahoo! News article published on November 26, 2024, a scene including Taylor's Nessarose takes place as she shares the screen alongside the younger version of Elphaba in Wicked—played by Karis Musongole. In the scene, Elphaba asks Nessa if she wants to hear a story, to which she replies with, "Yeah!" in a soft, high-pitched voice.

Cesily Collette Taylor was diagnosed with Spina Bifida before birth

On December 17, 2024, Students For Life published an article about the story of Cesily Collette Taylor. It was Jon Chu's decision to choose a wheelchair user to portray Nessarose in Wicked, where she appears in a wheelchair to lend the character authenticity and give representation to those with wheelchairs in the film.

Per the anti-abortion organization, Taylor was diagnosed with Spina Bifida while still in utero and uses a wheelchair as her primary mobility aid.

After receiving Cesily Collette Taylor's pre-natal diagnosis, the doctors pressured her parents to end her life via abortion. The actor's father told the organization:

"When my wife and I found out we were having a baby girl, it felt like a dream come true. But then the doctor told us she’d be born with Spina Bifida and would never move from the neck down. They even suggested we terminate the pregnancy."

He continued:

"That was heartbreaking, but we refused to give up. We promised that she would be loved and have a happy life. Cesily proved them all wrong… to every parent of a child with Spina Bifida: know there is light at the end of the tunnel."

Per Students For Life, prenatal diagnoses are a common factor playing into the decision of whether a preborn child should live or die. This is especially problematic given the fact that these tests are not even 100% accurate.

A doctor's suggestion of abortion in light of a prenatal diagnosis promotes a culture of ableism, stripping "our society of unique and unrepeatable individuals," according to the organization. The article concluded with:

"Cesily Collette Taylor’s parents said no to the wickedness of abortion so she could touch those around her and now shine as a young Wicked star and hopefully go on to inspire in other movie roles."

Jamie Foxx complimented Wicked's Cesily Collette Taylor on the Golden Globes Red Carpet

Pure Wow reported that Taylor was joined by Jamie Foxx on the Golden Globes red carpet, where the actor and comedian posed with her for pictures and complimented her, saying: "You were amazing in that movie."

The young Wicked actress was also interviewed by Entertainment Tonight host Nischelle Turner during the ceremony, where she expressed her excitement about having worked on the project. Taylor said:

"I saw Ariana and Cynthia in the movie, and I thought they were great! Ariana was a great singer and they made me happy"

Collette wasn't the only Wicked actor to attend the Golden Globes award. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were in attendance as well, in addition to Jon M. Chu, and Marc Platter, the movie's producer. The Hollywood Reporter reported on Monday that Wicked won the award for the best cinematic and box office achievement at the event.
