Who's The Boss alum Danny Pintauro was involved in a scooter accident on the night of Thanksgiving. He took to Instagram on December 1 to tell his fans and followers about the incident and subsequent surgery he underwent.
In his Instagram caption, he wrote that he sustained stomach, shoulder, and chest pain that got so intense that he "could barely breathe," leading to surgery.
The 48-year-old revealed that the accident occurred on the night of Thanksgiving when the bike lane he was riding in was “suddenly blocked with cones.” As he shared a video of himself in the hospital, he said in his social media post:
“I was forced to choose between a van and a pylon. The pylons hurt!! Have a terrible scrape on my arm and I was pretty convinced I had broken my arm. The next morning it was a whole lot better so I didn’t worry as much.”
However, after experiencing immense pain, his husband, Will Pintauro-Tabares, drove him to the hospital, where a CAT scan, blood tests, and an X-ray revealed that Danny Pintauro had:
“An infection in my bloodstream due to a tear in my stomach lining- air and stomach acid, etc, were escaping into my abdomen.”
The actor added in his Instagram post that he was in “the most excruciating pain I’ve ever felt in my whole life,” subsequently leading to an emergency surgery being scheduled “to repair the tear.”
Inside Danny Pintauro and Will Tabares’ wedding as the former shares injury update
Danny Pintauro and Will Tabares met at a mutual friend's party. The couple tied the knot on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Dana Point, California. Will, who was an Entertainer and Cosmopolitan casino employee at the time, popped the question, as per US Magazine. Will’s official Instagram account states that he is an artist specializing in dance and narration.
Speaking about getting married, Tabares exclusively told US magazine:
“I never thought I would ever get married. I knew I would never marry a woman, and never thought I’d see the day that same s*x marriage would be legal, so it’s definitely a life-long dream come true.”
While updating followers about how the surgery went, Danny Pintauro, best known for playing Jonathan Bower on the ABC sitcom, said the surgery “went well” and that he was not experiencing much pain.
“They always say this but it’s very true, if I had waited any longer, I could have died. My body was the one who told me something was absolutely wrong. My wonderful husband Will drove me here and has been by my side for the whole thing.”
Danny Pintauro had stepped away from acting for years until he starred in a Lifetime Christmas movie, A Country Christmas Harmony, in 2022.
In an interview with People magazine, he revealed that starring in Who’s The Boss led him to experience “a lot of trauma” later, subsequently leading to drug consumption and a financial crisis.
He was also reportedly diagnosed with HIV and was not getting any roles. Speaking about landing a role in the film after his first audition, he told the magazine, “I couldn’t believe it.”
Pintauro had not provided further updates on his recovery at the time of writing this article.
