Gypsy Rose Blanchard, star of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup, has confirmed that her boyfriend, Ken Urker, is the father of her unborn daughter following a prenatal paternity test. Blanchard, 32, made the announcement on November 5 in an Instagram post, dispelling speculation regarding her baby's paternity.
"There's been a lot of chatter around the paternity of our baby...I feel it's finally time to put all these theories to rest," she wrote alongside the test results.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard expressed confidence in Urker's readiness for fatherhood. She further wrote:
"Ken is going to be an incredible dad and we are so excited to welcome our baby girl into the world."
This announcement provides clarity as Blanchard's pregnancy unfolds amid legal complications due to Louisiana's paternity laws. Under state law, if a woman is still married or has been divorced for less than 300 days before her child's birth, her husband or recent ex-spouse is presumed to be the legal father.
In this case, Gypsy Rose Blanchard's ex-husband, Ryan Anderson, could still be listed on the birth certificate and legally required to undergo a paternity test.
Anderson and Blanchard filed for divorce earlier this year, and to prevent his name from being automatically added to the child's birth certificate, a 3-party Acknowledgment of Paternity (AOP) Affidavit has to be completed to establish paternity for the biological father. It has to be accompanied by DNA test results, as per The Louisiana Paternity Establishment Program website.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard faces co-parenting hurdles
Gypsy Rose Blanchard, currently on parole, is facing logistical difficulties establishing co-parenting with Urker due to state-imposed residency restrictions. In a recent interview on Nick Viall's podcast, The Viall Files on October 16, Blanchard explained that she currently lives with her parents in Cut Off, Louisiana, while Urker resides about an hour away.
"I'm going to be living [with my parents] until I'm off parole," she said,
She acknowledged the distance and the need for careful planning to prepare for their daughter's arrival. Despite these obstacles, Blanchard and Urker are determined to work together as co-parents, balancing their relationship with the challenges posed by her legal situation.
Blanchard initially announced her pregnancy in July and later revealed in August that she and Urker were expecting a baby girl. However, Louisiana's paternity laws added an additional layer of complexity. Because Blanchard's divorce from Anderson was filed in April this year, he was still legally presumed to be the child's father until a paternity test could confirm otherwise.
In August, Anderson agreed to take a DNA test to avoid legal complications. He called the situation a "no-choice" matter, as the state's default stance would have listed him as the child's father unless he formally contested it.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ken Urker, who previously dated, rekindled their relationship in April 2024, shortly after Blanchard filed for divorce from Anderson. Their reconciliation was met with support from Blanchard's followers, as she frequently shared updates on their relationship and her pregnancy journey on social media.
Blanchard's November 5 Instagram post marked the culmination of months of speculation over the paternity of her baby, which had surfaced shortly after her pregnancy announcement.
Both Blanchard and Urker are preparing for their daughter's birth and focusing on the next steps in their family life. Despite the legal and logistical challenges they face, Blanchard remains hopeful about the future, highlighting Urker's potential to be a "great dad," as per her Instagram post.
For now, Blanchard plans to continue living with her parents until her parole ends, which will allow her to spend more time with her newborn daughter and maintain the stability required by her parole terms.
