Who was Joyce Sims? Tributes pour in as R&B singer and 'Come Into my Life' hitmaker dies aged 63

Well-known singer and songwriter Joyce Sims recently passed away on October 15 at the age of 63. Her family members confirmed the news and one of her siblings, Annette Ramsey, paid tribute to her on Facebook. She wrote:

“I will always remember the happy times we’ve shared, the love and support you have given me will not go in vain. I Love you Big Sis RIP.”

SoulTracks’ publisher Chris Rizik stated that Sims was a great talent who sang, wrote, and played for them for around three decades. He also said that the music world will mourn her demise and that her impact on music was greater than the popularity she achieved in three and a half decades.

Joyce’s cause of death remains unknown and there is no information on whether she was suffering from any health issues. An official statement on the same is currently awaited from her family members.


Joyce Sims' Come Into My Life was a Top-10 single on the R&B chart

Born on August 6, 1959, Joyce gained recognition for her song, Come into My Life, which was released in 1987. It reached the 10th position on the US Billboard R&B chart and the UK Singles Chart in 1987 and 1988.

She enrolled in college and studied music along with learning a few other instruments. She started her career by signing with the discontinued record label Sleeping Bag Records in 1986 and released her first single, (You Are My) All and All in the same year. The song was trending on the UK Singles Chart and the US Dance Chart at the time.

Joyce Sims' next release was Come into My Life, which was the most successful hit of her career and her only top-10 single on the R&B chart. She and Jimmy Castor collaborated on a remake of Love Makes a Woman, which was also loved by the audience.

Sims’ first album, Come into My Life, was released in 1987 and reached the 22nd position in the US R&B album chart and 5th in the UK Albums Chart. She wrote all the songs from the album except Love Makes a Woman. This was followed by her second album, All About Love in 1989, which reached the 64th position on the UK Albums Chart.

Joyce Sims' next song was titled Who’s Crying Now, which was released in 1994. Her song What the World Needs Now is Love from the album A New Beginning was released in 2006.

She then released a double CD of her biggest hits and remixes in 2009, titled Come into My Life: the Very Best of Joyce Sims, and formed a record label called August Rose Records.

Joyce’s next album, Love Song, was released in 2014 and her music was also featured on the soundtrack of the 1995 science fiction horror film Species. She then released a song, Wishing You Were Here, followed by an album, Back in Love Again.
