WTVR-FM’s Mix 98.1 announced on the morning of Saturday, June 29, that radio jockey and host Kat Simons has passed away. Many have since taken to the internet to pay tribute to the artist.

The Mix 98.1 radio station shared a tribute during their morning show as well. Speaking about Kat Simons’ character and expressing their sadness over the tragedy, they said:

“This loss has left a void in our hearts, one that seems impossible to fill. For decades, Kat graced our lives with her unwavering devotion to her work, her listeners, her colleagues, and her sponsors. She was more than a voice on the radio; she was a cherished friend and a comforting presence, always offering a kind word or a sweet question with sincere curiosity."

The continued:

"Kat’s life was a symphony of kindness and dedication, played out over the airwaves of Virginia radio.”

For those uninitiated, Kat Simons frequently appeared on the Richmond and Hampton Roads stations and held the afternoon shift at WTVR. She also appeared on WWDE-FM’s 2WD Norfolk show. Her work on Lite 98 as a DJ during the midday was also a fan favorite.

Many were saddened to hear about her death. The Richmond community took to the internet to share their commiserations and tributes under a Facebook post that shared the news of her passing:

The cause of death was not made public at the time of writing this article.

Details about the funeral arrangement and services are yet to be revealed.

Mix 98.1 Richmond stated that citizens would not only remember her for her work as a radio jockey but also for her generosity and high spirits.


Kat Simons worked in the radio industry for over 25 years

Kat Simons was born in Elkins, West Virginia. Not only was she an active member of the radio show hosting community, but she also took part in multiple charities. Some of her philanthropic projects included the Alzheimer’s Association, the Diabetes Association, Faison, Children’s Hospital, and SPARC, among others.

Simons was vocal about her love for animals and her passion for rescuing them. She went on to introduce the Pet of the Day segment at the Mix 98.2 Radio where she went on to raise thousands of dollars for aiding animals. She also reportedly took care of multiple animals on her family’s farm.

A few places she has worked as an RJ include Clarksburg, Morgantown, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, and Louisville.
