Kat Torres, the popular Brazilian influencer who was previously seen partying with the Titanic star, Leonardo DiCaprio has been jailed for trafficking and slavery. The whole fiasco started in September 2022, when two young Brazilian women, Desirrê and Letícia, went missing, and their families filed an FIR for the same.

Once found, the two women reported to the authorities that all this while, they had been living with Kat Torres and narrated their scary experience living with her. The women also stated that they were moved by Kat’s story about how she went from rags to riches, as she spent her early years in poverty but became rich and moved to an opulent society later on.

BBC reported that Torres created a wellness website, which promised people the “love, money and self-esteem that you always dreamt of.” As both Desirrê and Letícia started their life-coaching sessions with her, Torres pressured them to move to the US, leave their lives in Brazil, and work for her. The publication also mentioned how Kat forced them into working in strip clubs.

Since the investigations started in 2022, Kat has been arrested and sentenced to eight years in prison. On the other hand, she has previously been in the news as she was often spotted with Leonardo DiCaprio, and publications like Forbes also mentioned that the duo briefly dated.

Kat Torres bought tickets for Desirrê and Letícia as she forced them to move in with her

Kat Torres left many stunned as two women went missing and were found at her home, living forcibly. After the two women were rescued, they revealed shocking details about how the influencer bought tickets for them and forced them to live with her and work in her mansion in the US.

As Desirrê and Letícia moved into Kat’s house, Desirrê stated that she discovered that Kat Torres’ reality was different from what she portrayed online and promised them. She pressured Desirrê to work in strip clubs. However, when Desirrê protested against the same, she asked her to repay all the money she had spent on her flights, accommodation, furniture, etc.

As a result, Desirrê started working in a strip club. The club manager also confirmed that the woman worked long hours and was sometimes found to be in the club for seven days straight. All the women’s earnings were forced to be handed over to Kat Torres, who did not pay them a single penny.

BBC mentioned that Desirrê’s bank account statements prove that she had transferred more than $21,000 to Torres’ account in two months, June 2022 and July 2022. The women were often threatened and forced to pay $3,000 to Kat every day.

However, as they went missing, a social media campaign was started by the friends and family of Desirrê and Letícia, which made Kat Torres change their appearance to the extent that the two were unrecognizable. As the campaign became viral on the internet, Kat Torres forced them to make a video asking people to “stop finding them.”

This was followed by a FaceTime call by the authorities in the US who were concerned for their wellbeing. As Homeland Security called Desirrê, Torres was heard saying in the background:

“He will start asking questions. Guys, they are full of tricks. He’s a detective, be very careful. For God’s sake, I’ll kick you out if you say anything. I’ll scream.”

While interrogating, the detectives were left alarmed because of their body language, which had several warning signals, such as denying speaking further without Torres’ consent. The women were then rescued by the US authorities.

The judges have now sentenced Kat Torres to serve eight years in prison. News 18 also mentioned that the influencer had been taking advantage of more than 20 women, whose inquiry is still going on.
