5Canadian influencer Meg DeAngelis has garnered immense backlash online after passing insensitive comments about the Los Angeles wildfires, which claimed the lives of at least five people and left thousands to flee their homes.
Meg DeAngelis took to her Instagram stories on January 9 to share an image of herself pouting. She wrote alongside the social media post:
“When I escaped NYC because it was too cold, but now this one is literally burning down.”
She has since taken to her Instagram stories to sympathize with the victims of the natural disaster.
For those uninitiated, Meg DeAngelis is a Toronto, Canada-born influencer best known for her lifestyle content and music. She had amassed nearly 1.5 million followers on Instagram at the time of writing this article. She has released a series of songs, including psycho, Ex’s and Why’s, bad for me and Two Sides among others.
The New York Post revealed on January 9 that netizens were displeased to see the influencer seemingly make light of the current predicament in Los Angeles. As per the news outlet, some reactions to her social media post read:
“OMG that’s horrible and so stupid. My friend’s house literally just burned down! People have died! Not to mention all the pets and wildlife”
“Disgusting, but what else should we expect from an out-of-touch influencer? People have lost everything.”
“If you don’t have helpful information for people in this ongoing crisis why are you posting? People… just HAVE to post on Instagram and somehow make this catastrophic situation about themselves.”

Meg DeAngelis became a social media sensation through her Instagram and TikTok content that featured lighthearted lifestyle content. She had amassed over a million followers on TikTok at the time of writing this article. However, she first created her own space on the internet through YouTube back in 2008.
Some of her popular videos that had amassed over a million views included 7 Cool DIY Ideas for Your Room, Get Ready With Me For the Kids Choice Awards, Draw My Life 2016 I Meg DeAngelis, and The 5 Stages of Your School Day, among others.
She amassed a larger fandom after starring in YouTube Red’s original movie titled Dance Camp. Since then, she has also starred in the sketch comedy group Just Like That.
The 29-year-old took to her Instagram stories as well to further address the wildfires by saying:
“In all seriousness, this is heartbreaking. I’m thinking about all the wildlife and everyone who is affected i’m so sorry you have to go through this love u and make sure to check on your friends!!”

Meanwhile, nearly 180,000 Los Angeles County residents remain under evacuation orders, with another 200,000 being under evacuation warnings as the biggest blazes rampantly spread.
Among some celebrities who have lost their homes are Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, who attended the Golden Globes just days ago, and Paris Hilton.
The Los Angeles medical examiner confirmed that ten fire-related deaths had occurred by January 9. The Los Angeles Police also revealed that they had detained a man suspected of trying to light a fire in the Woodland Hills area of LA.
