Who is Meltem Bozbeyoglu? CNN journalist goes viral for delivering news as earthquake hits Turkey

Recently, Meltem Bozbeyoglu, a Turkish television anchor, went viral after delivering news during the country's recent earthquake. According to footage circulated on social media. CNN Türk anchor Bozbeyoglu was in the middle of a show when the studio started to shake.

When the 6.2-magnitude earthquake shook Istanbul just before 1 p.m. local time on Wednesday, April 23, Bozbeyoglu held up her hand and her voice trembled in apparent concern.

The same day, the Associated Press reported that the nation's interior minister, Ali Yerlikaya, claimed that the 13-second earthquake was followed by over 50 aftershocks, the biggest of which measured 5.9.

Amidst all these, Meltem Bozbeyoglu gained popularity for her tenacity.

Bozbeyoglu is a journalist who was transferred to CNN Türk in 2021 to further her career, after working as a reporter for Show TV.

Meltem Bozbeyoglu was born on December 5, 1992, and after finishing her elementary and high school education, she received honours from Istanbul Kültür University's Department of Public Relations and Publicity.

Additionally, Meltem Bozbeyoglu earned her degree from Istanbul University's Department of Advertising and finished her internships in the media.

After beginning her career in 2012 at the Anadolu Agency Sports Department, Bozbeyoğlu spent two years working as an agency reporter.

The Sports Critic show that aired on TRT in 2014 was her second place of work. She worked in the business' section. In the same year, she finished her diction, commentary, presentation, and rapid and efficient speaking training at an organization called Dialog.

Meltem Bozbeyoglu then joined Turkey's Istanbul FM at the end of the course, where she provided hourly bulletins as a news anchor.

For two years, she prepared news content there by doing hourly live radio broadcasts.

After honing his breathing, articulation, and voice on the radio, Bozbeyoglu chose to pursue a career in television and was moved to Kanal7 News Centre in 2016.

She covered a wide range of topics as a reporter for four years, including politics, economic changes, natural disasters, and war zones.

In 2019, Meltem Bozbeyoglu proceeded on her journey with Show Haber. Bozbeyoğlu, who acquired popularity for her three years of special news, joined the company as the Weekend Main News anchor.

As she continued her journalism career, Meltem Bozbeyoğlu also won the Best Reporter of the Year title at the 2nd Capital Awards in 2018 and the Most Successful Reporter of the Year award at the KırmızıTürk Golden Success Awards.

Meltem Bozbeyoglu was then transferred to CNN Turk in 2021 after working as a correspondent at Show TV. She provided news bulletins, took the post of anchor, and continued to follow special stories there.

Additionally, Meltem Bozbeyoglu was a presenter on Istanbul TV's Cinema Program. Now, she recently got viral for delivering news as a massive earthquake hit Turkey.

Although there were no initial reports of significant damage, the same Associated Press story stated that the earthquake rocked Istanbul and other parts of Turkey, causing widespread panic and several injuries.

At least 236 individuals, the most of whom were in Istanbul, where citizens are terrified due to the city's high seismic danger, received treatment for injuries they sustained while attempting to jump from buildings or from panic attacks.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake's epicenter was located in the Sea of Marmara, roughly 40 kilometres southwest of Istanbul.

According to a report published by People Magazine on April 23, more than 150 individuals were injured in the aftermath of the earthquake. Additionally, AP reported that the governor's office in Istanbul said in a statement:

“Due to panic, 151 of our citizens were injured from jumping from heights.. Their treatments are ongoing in hospitals, and they are not in life-threatening condition.”

Meanwhile, no other information on the earthquake is available as of yet.
