Nathaniel Bassey, a well-known Nigerian musician, will lead worship at the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, 2025. This faith-based event will be held at the Waldorf Astoria Presidential Ballroom in Washington, D.C., with the goal of providing spiritual support for the next administration.

Nathaniel Bassey is a Nigerian gospel artist and preacher, musician, songwriter, and trumpet player known for his songs, such as Imela, Onise Iyanu, and Olowogbogboro. He is a pastor of The Oasis Lagos, the young church of the RCCG Kings Court in Victoria Island, Lagos, according to his website. His music includes hymns, medleys, jazz, and praise, among other genres.


Nigerian singer Nathaniel Bassey is set to lead Trump's Presidential inaugural prayer breakfast

Nathaniel Bassey was born in 1978 in Lagos, Nigeria, as per The Nation Newspaper. His father, Mr. E. Joshua Bassey, served as a priest in the Bashua Assembly of the Apostolic Church.

Nathaniel attended the University of Lagos to study politics and international relations before relocating to London to pursue higher studies in politics. On the other hand, he also attended the Middlesex University Summer School to study music. Additionally, Nathaniel played trumpet with the Rhodes Orchestra for two years after starting his musical career in the church.

Initially a trumpet musician, he composed a song while visiting Stella Obasanjo, the late wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He played on the 2004 album New Jazz Stew Project: Revelation with renowned jazz musicians Yinka Davies and Wole Oni. Bassey was one of the main performers at The Experience, a Christian gathering in Nigeria, in 2018, as per Nigerian newspaper The Punch.

2008 saw the recording and mixing of his debut album, Elohim, in Cape Town, South Africa. Since then, he has released a number of albums, including The Son of God (2014), Revival Flames (2017), Hallelujah Again (2021), and more.

In June 2017, Nathaniel began the #HallelujahChallenge, in which he and other believers worship God for an hour between 12:00 and 1:00 in the morning, according to his profile on nathanielbassey.com. He invites people to join him via Instagram and other social media platforms. The premiere event received over 600,000 views in less than a month, as per a June 2017 report by The Punch.

On January 4, 2025, Nathaniel Bassey shared the news of him leading Donald Trump's presidential inaugural prayer breakfast via Instagram and urged his followers to "raise a sound in America." Stating the same, he wrote:

"Let’s raise a sound in America. And let the King of Glory come in.See you. 20th January, 2025.”

He continued:

"The Presidential Prayer Breakfast is a non-official and non-governmental event. It is a Faith Based platform where intercessory prayers and worship are offered to God on behalf of the office of the president and government of the nation."

Nathaniel Bassey then concluded:

"This event is held once in four years preceding the inauguration ceremony as a breakfast prayer meeting ahead of every new administration. And over the years it has been attended by leaders and dignitaries from around the world.”

On the other hand, Christian leaders, legislators, and worshippers from around the world will come together for the first prayer breakfast with Trump.
