Hampton, Virginia-based Pastor Terry Jackson has gone viral online after reportedly making a woman apologize in front of a congregation for bearing a child out of wedlock.
In videos going viral online, the True Vine Apostolic Church of Christ leader can be seen condemning her actions by stating that a baby shower will not be held for the unidentified woman. The woman’s mother has also since taken to social media to stand by Jackson’s opinions.
On Sunday, January 5, a woman stood in front of the True Vine community to ask for forgiveness. She said tearfully:
“I want to apologize to everybody in here because I am pregnant. I just hope that y’all forgive me.”
After her statement, Pastor Terry Jackson said:
“We don’t condone sin. Ain’t no baby showers. You have a baby out of wedlock ain’t nobody in this church bout to attend one.”
Its Onsite also reported on January 8 that Jackson then added during the service, “Thank God that God didn’t take you out of here,” in relation to the woman’s predicament.
For those uninitiated, Bishop Terry Jackson was ordained at the True Vine Apostolic Church of Christ in December 2020 due to his ardent devotion to the Lord and for his tireless work with the church. He is married to Sister Paulette Jackson.
The Newport News Shipbuilding rewarded Pastor Terry Jackson with the 2024 President’s Model of Excellence Award
As per the Instagram page of the church, Jackson was awarded the President Model of Excellence Award in 2024 by the Newport News Shipbuilding. He attended the event with his wife, Paulette.
Terry Jackson was born to Bishop James C. Jackson and Sophie E. Jackson. At the age of 27, Terry began helping his father at the church.
As per True Vine’s official website, Pastor Terry Jackson’s vision for the church is to:
“Fulfill the Lord's work by teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ, administering baptism for the remission of sins, and bringing new souls into the fold.”
His wife Paulette has worked in various ministries of the True Vine church, which her job also includes advising young mothers and serving in the ministry kitchen.
Its Onsite also reported on January 8 that the mother of the pregnant woman took to Facebook to address the controversy. In the social media post, Dee Myles seemingly sided with Pastor Terry Jackson and stated that it was her daughter’s choice to stand before the congregation.
Myles said online:
“You all are interrupting my peace and is causing more damage than good. You are showing up disrupting my church, my beliefs, amd disrespecting my pastor. I am where I want to be and where I chose to be. We were not forced or manipulated to stand before the congregation."
The mother added:
"My daughter willingly approached the congregation and was welcomed and embraced with open arms. I stand on what I’ve been taught, and I’m raising my daughter to do the same. I stand with my Pastor.”
The pregnant woman herself had not publicly addressed what occurred at the congregation at the time of writing this article.
