Robert Card has been identified as a "person of interest" in the wake of the mass shooting incident that occurred in Lewiston, Maine, on the night of October 25, 2023. The shooting claimed the lives of 22, leaving about 50 to 60 people injured, as reported by CNN.

Initially, the gunman was unidentified. However, upon analyzing the surveillance footage - which revealed a white man with a long rifle, dressed in black combat pants and a brown shirt - Maine State Police has now traced the identity of this person as Robert Card.
So far, the suspect has not been tracked down. As a result, the Maine State Police have asked the residents of Lewiston and the nearby city of Auburn to stay indoors. They have also instructed local business owners to shut down temporarily until the manhunt is successful. Schools, colleges, and even offices have been asked to suspend operations until advised otherwise.
Robert Card is a 40-year-old former student of Maine University
According to Fox News, the main suspect of the mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine is a 40-year-old white man named Robert Card, who still remains at large. In fact, the Maine State Police has declared it an active shooter situation.
As per CNN, Robert Card's face is clearly visible in the security footage. The suspect, according to NBC News, was a student of engineering at the University of Maine from 2001 to 2004, as revealed by their representative Eric Gordon.
According to the media source, Robert Card opened fire at three distinct sites in Lewiston, Maine, starting with Sparetime Entertainment Center, followed by Schemengee’s Bar and Grill, and finally at a Walmart distribution center.
He was identified from the surveillance at the Sparetime bowling alley. The suspected shooter is believed to have gunned down at least 22 people and injured a total of 50 to 60.
As per a Maine State Police spokesperson’s statement to the press, the first call came at approximately 7:16 pm local time. The cops immediately rushed to Sparetime. However, the shooter had moved to Schemengee’s by then, and the Maine State Police along with the local Lewiston first responders began their manhunt.
When they reached Walmart around 8:15 pm, Robert Card had already left the scene there.
So far, it remains unclear whether Robert Card had any accomplices. How he managed to travel across the town also remains a mystery. However, based on witness testimonies, cops suspect that Card may have gone on the run in a 2013 white Subaru Outback.
It is important to note that as per a bulletin released by the Maine Information and Analysis Center, Robert was a trained firearms instructor and was previously associated with the state’s Army Reserve. Not only that, he also “recently reported mental health issues to include hearing voices (admitted to a mental health facility in summer 2023) and threats to shoot up the National Guard Base” in Saco, Maine.
The Maine State Police has instructed non-emergency personnel to stay indoors for their safety, both in Lewiston as well as the neighboring city Auburn, until Card, who is being considered “armed and dangerous,” is put into custody.
For those uninitiated, Lewiston is the second-largest and most populous city in Maine with over 36,000 residents. It is located between Augusta and Portland.
