Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance has responded to Taylor Swift's "childless cat lady" dig, aimed at one of his previous statements. On September 10, Swift took to Instagram to endorse Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential elections.
In her post, she signed off as "childless cat lady" as a supposed dig on Vance's infamous statements from 2021, when the Republican used the sexist term to describe Kamala Harris and other female Democrats. The term has misogynistic roots and is used to mock women who do not or cannot have children and are considered "lonely" for owning cats.
In an interview with Fox News on September 11, JD Vance responded to Swift's dig at his comment, saying:
“We admire Taylor Swift’s music. But I don’t think most Americans — whether they like her music, are fans of hers or not — are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity, who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and problems of most Americans."
Vance added:
"When grocery prices go up by 20%, it hurts most Americans. It doesn’t hurt Taylor Swift. When housing prices become unaffordable, it doesn’t affect Taylor Swift or any other billionaire."
Fans took to X to react to Vance's statements, with many indicating that his reasons for dismissing Swift's political stance also apply to Trump, due to his billionaire status. One X user joked about the same and questioned:
"Uhhh who's your running mate?"
"He's right. We are not going to be influenced by trump, a celebrity who has never grocery shopped in his life and has had servants doing everything for him since the day he was born. But Taylor has had 300k+ people register to vote from her instagram link since last night," another fan wrote.
"Is it possible to have negative self-awareness?" a user questioned.
"Who will tell him?" another netizen wrote.
Fans continued to mock Vance for his statements, claiming he is not self-aware.
"Self-awareness level: Zero," a fan added.
"Is he really this dense he doesn't know that by his rationale that would also apply to Trump?" another user questioned.
"Let him talk. That should work well for him and the Donald," an individual opined.
"Meanwhile, his running mate is a billionaire celebrity who is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and problems of most Americans. Kinda funny how that works, eh?" an X user mentioned.
This is not the first time Taylor Swift has come out in public to confirm her political stance. The pop star famously endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris against Donald Trump in the 2020 Presidential elections, after criticizing the latter via X (formerly Twitter).

In a statement to Fox and Friends, Republican nominee Donald Trump also reacted to Taylor Swift's endorsement of his opponent Kamala Harris in the 2024 elections. The MAGA leader said:
“I was not a Taylor Swift fan. It was just a question of time… she’s a very liberal person, she seems to always endorse a Democrat and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”
In her Instagram post confirming her support for Harris, Swift explained that she had made her choice to vote for Harris in the elections after watching the debate between Trump and the Vice President on September 10. Taylor wrote:
"Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country."
The pop star also addressed her concerns about the use of AI in falsely claiming her endorsement for Trump. She was referring to the former President sharing AI-generated images of Swift endorsing him in the elections on his website.
"Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth," Swift wrote.
Taylor Swift concluded her post by declaring that she will vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. The pop star explained that Harris believes in the rights and causes she supports and is a "steady-handed, gifted leader."
Swift also showed her support for Harris' running mate Tim Waltz, revealing that she admires him for campaigning for LGBTQ rights, IVF, and the right for a woman to make her own choices about her body.
Shortly after Taylor Swift endorsed Harris and Waltz officially, the Vice President played one of her hit numbers, The Man, from her 2019 album Lover at a post-debate meet-up. The song's lyrics were presumably used to portray Harris as a strong woman candidate, as it says:
"I'm so sick of running as fast as I can/ Wondering if I'd get there quicker/ If I was a man."
Alongside her post endorsing Harris, Taylor Swift shared an image of herself with one of three beloved cats, Benjamin Button, perfectly complimenting her signing off as a "childless cat lady."
