Rapper Young Lo was recently shot dead on May 7, 2023, at a nightclub called Gala in Miami. Two others were also injured in the incident. Although Lo was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries the following day at 4 am.
The 200 block of 23rd Street was sealed with crime scene tape, and according to reports, an unidentified individual opened fire inside the club, leading to the incident. Lo was identified by his friends, and they revealed that he is survived by a son.
The nightclub also expressed grief regarding the incident and shared a message on Instagram that stated:
"We are shocked and deeply saddened by the isolated and targeted incident that occurred last night at our upscale establishment."
The motive behind the incident remains unknown, but one of Lo's friends spoke to CBS News Miami, saying that he was a target of the shooter and that the women standing near him were injured unintentionally. No one has been arrested until now.
Young Lo was a rising star in the music industry
Also known as Lowell Grissom Jr., Young Lo was well-known for his rapping style. He was also a music producer and a talent scout for the record label Makasound Records. Lo was popular for his collaborations with Chris Brown and was a close friend of Ray J.
Although Lo was known for his flawless work in music, he was also involved in some controversies following a lawsuit filed by a woman against him and Chris Brown. The woman claimed that she was r*ped at Brown's Los Angeles-based residence in 2017.
The woman stated in the court documents that she was a victim of r*pe, s*xual assault, and false imprisonment during a party at Brown's house that was organized by Young Lo.
The civil suit was filed by civil rights attorney Gloria Allred in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The lawsuit included several charges, including s*xual battery, gender violence, violation of Ralph's civil rights act, battery, assault, interference with the exercise of civil rights, intentional inflection of emotional distress, and negligence.
A few rappers have been murdered in the last few months
Rappers have been a frequent target of gunmen in the last few months, and this has led to the demise of a few popular hip-hop artists. This includes AKA, also known as Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, who was shot dead outside a restaurant on February 10, 2023.
