Veteran DJ Johnnie Walker, born as Peter Waters Dingley, passed away on December 31, 2024, at the age of 79. In June, The Mail reported that Walker had been suffering from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, for the past four years. The outlet further added that his condition worsened and he had to be confined to his home since January.

The late DJ has left behind his wife Tiggy Jarvis, whom he got married to back in December 2002. Tiggy was also the one who took care of Walker when he fell severely sick earlier in 2024.

In October, an article by Saga reported that Johnnie Walker would address his spouse as "Tiggy Stardust" owing to her love for David Bowie. For the unversed, Bowie had created a fictional character known as "Ziggy Stardust."

Independent revealed in an article post Walker's demise, that Tiggy expressed much pride in her late husband's career. She said:

"I couldn’t be more proud of Johnnie – how he kept broadcasting almost to the end and with what dignity and grace he coped with his debilitating lung disease. He remained his charming, humorous self to the end, what a strong, amazing man. It has been a roller-coaster ride from start to finish."

She further concluded by praying for Johnnie Walker. Bob Harris, Walker's friend and colleague from BBC Radio 2, was the one to announce the news about his demise on air. In November, Harris replaced Johnnie Walker on the Sounds Of The 70s radio show, after the latter fell sick.

Everything to know about Tiggy Jarvis, late DJ Johnnie Walker's wife

Tiggy Jarvis, who had been taking full-time care of Johnnie Walker in his last few months, was a broadcaster as well as a producer, who had produced several TV commercials. While being Johnnie's manager, Tiggy was also a columnist for the Dorset Magazine.

Tiggy's 2015 book Unplanned Journey indicated that she was a Joint Patron of Carers UK, alongside her husband. Johnnie and Tiggy got hitched in 2002, after the DJ's 30-year-long marriage with Frances Kum broke in 2000. According to the June article by The Mail, the couple were engaged for about a year before they were married.

The couple had played the role of carers in each other's lives since the time they tied the knot. In 2003, Johnnie Walker revealed that he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. While he survived, his wife Tiggy fell sick and was diagnosed with breast cancer a decade later in 2013.

In September 2015, Tiggy Walker wrote about her experience with cancer for The Mail. According to Tiggy, she initially thought she had a non-cancerous cyst. Tiggy reportedly underwent two operations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Meanwhile, her husband Johnnie would drive her to multiple appointments and encourage her to continue the treatment.

In June, she wrote for Dorset Magazine and revealed that Johnnie Walker had been sick and hospitalized several times since the time they got hitched. She further opened up about suffering from a form of PTSD, when she had to offer full-time care to Johnnie, the first time.

After Johhnie's demise, several people have been paying tributes and offering their condolences.
