CNN journalist Lana Bash has called Lara Trump out over the alleged misinformation spread by Donald Trump about funding for disaster relief in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene, stirring a considerable buzz among netizens.

Hurricane Helene was a fast-moving cyclone that hit the Big Bend region of Florida between September 26 and September 27. According to ABC News, the live death count has already exceeded 230 as rescue efforts continue across North Carolina.

On Sunday's (October 6) edition of State of the Union, Lana Bash didn't let Lara Trump get away with her father-in-law's false claims that FEMA was offering only $750 to the victims of Hurricane Helene.

“You are right that FEMA is giving $750 [to each family],” Bash corrected her. “But that is a first step for immediate needs. It’s called serious needs assistance.”

Despite Lara Trump's attempts to deflect the questions by talking about another hurricane and local victims in Florida, Bash stood firm, saying,

“It is bad there. But my question is about the misinformation, particularly the notion that they are moving money to, you say, undocumented migrants, which FEMA says flatly is not true. If people are not getting correct information and then they can‘t go for assistance.”

Lara Trump tried to change the topic again by bringing up immigrants and their alleged housing in luxury hotels. However, Bash was quick to let her know that the two topics were disconnected.

Netizens have reacted to this exchange, the clip of which has currently gone viral on the internet. While some have lambasted Lara Trump for his claims, others have implored CNN to not bring people from Donald Trump's family for interviews. Some popular reactions on the internet are as follows,

"Why keep having the liars on?" wrote a user on X.
"As much as I enjoy seeing Dana Bash trying to keep a Trump on task and accountable for lies, Lara Trump is so incredibly unlikable and shrill… I couldn’t make it even halfway through this clip,' agreed another.
"Why doesn’t she just say Lara shut up because you’re still giving out disinformation," opined one netizen.

Many users have slammed CNN for bringing Lara Trump as a guest on their platform, tweeting:

"I'd go one step farther, @CNN: stop interviewing this evil Trump family. I have a friend in Asheville Carolina who has been affected by the hurricane and is grateful for the assistance @fema and @WCKitchen provided her and her family after 7 days without electricity and water."
"The point is that you should NOT invite such people on your show *ever*," agreed another.
"@CNN needs to cut the mic on these overtalkers, it's so annoying," wrote a fan on X.
"Even though it's good that Dana's calling out the lies, yet CNN is STILL allowing the lies. The trump's lie, that's all they do. WHY have that family on air at all," wrote another user.

One user on X inferred:

"@LaraLeaTrump has learned to talk, grift, and lie from the biggest Con Man to ever live. Shes really evolved quickly."

Lara Trump is being criticized on the internet because of her father-in-law, Donald Trump's false claims about the monetary aid provided by FEMA after the devastating Hurricane Helene struck North Carolina in the last few days of September.

At a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday (October 5), Donald Trump asserted that the victims of the natural calamity who had lost their homes were only given $750 by FEMA as federal aid.

“They’re offering them $750, to people whose homes have been washed away. And yet we send tens of billions of dollars to foreign countries that most people have never heard of. They’re offering them $750. They’ve been destroyed, these people have been destroyed," said Trump.

He added:

"Think of it: We give foreign countries hundreds of billions of dollars and we’re handing North Carolina $750.”

However, the claim was false and had already been clarified by FEMA on their social media pages and official website created to counter misinformation. According to their explanation, $750 was just immediate assistance provided to the survivors for necessities like food, water, emergency supplies, etc.

Survivors could also apply for additional assistance like home repairs and temporary housing. Currently, the highest amount allocated for home repairs is $42,500.

On Wednesday (October 2), Kamala Harris visited Georgia and provided further clarification, saying:

"The federal relief and assistance that we have been providing has included FEMA providing $750 for folks who need immediate needs being met, such as food, baby formula, and the like. And you can apply now.”

Moments later, she added:

“FEMA is also providing tens of thousands more dollars for folks to help them be able to deal with home repair, to be able to cover a deductible when and if they have insurance, and also hotel costs.”

Finally, it is essential to note that the hurricane-related aid provided to individuals will be different from the hurricane-related assistance provided to state governments.
