Oran Alexander Routh, the son of Republican candidate Donald Trump's would-be assassin Ryan Routh, was arrested on child p*rnography charges on September 24, 2024. He was arrested in his home in North Carolina "in connection with an investigation unrelated to child exploitation."

As per several reports, the complaint filed in the federal court on September 23, stated that the FBI searched Oran Routh's home on Saturday. Agents reportedly found evidence of child p*rnography after discovering a memory card that allegedly had "hundreds" of files containing images of child s*x abuse.

Authorities also allegedly found a messaging app on his phone that was exclusively used by individuals to "distribute and receive child p*rnography." Several videos of adults engaging in s*xual acts with minors were also discovered on his electronic devices during the search.

“These files include videos from a known child pornography series created outside the state of North Carolina. Videos from the series depict minors engaged in s*x acts," the court documents said.

According to NBC News, Oran Routh was allegedly charged with "one count of receipt of child p*rnography and one count of possession of child p*rnography." He was also reportedly charged with drug possession after authorities found cocaine, MDMA, and ketamine, in his home.

Trump's apparent assassination attempt was on Saturday 15

On September 15, 2024, Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump faced an apparent assassination attempt on his golf course in Florida. This came just months after the first assassination attempt during a rally in Butler which left him injured and one dead in July.

On September 15, a Secret Service agent noticed the barrel of a semiautomatic rifle sticking out of the foliage just yards from where Trump was golfing. The agent fired at the alleged suspect, named Ryan Wesley Routh, who managed to escape from the scene.

However, he was later arrested while attempting to flee in his car. One of his charges included illegal gun possession, with a prosecutor adding they would try to level additional charges on him on account of his attempt to "assassinate a major political candidate."

Routh's bond was denied and he remains locked up as he awaits his trial. Authorities found an alleged letter from Routh titled "Dear World" at the home of an unnamed person. The letter detailed Routh's apology if he failed his alleged assassination attempt, saying:

"This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job."

The September assassination attempt came days after Donald Trump and Kamala Harris's debate on September 10. The two candidates debated various topics including gun control, immigration and reproductive rights.

The 90-minute debate was telecast on ABC News. The moderators David Muiz and Linsey Davis faced flack from Republicans for fact-checking Trump during the debate, once when he was talking about immigration and the other time about abortion.

Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally in Mint Hill, North Carolina on September 25, while Harris will campaign in Pennsylvania that same day. The candidates have just seven weeks before the election on November 5, 2024.
