On May 19, 2023, following the solo debut announcement of NCT's Taeyong, the idol started a live broadcast on Instagram to chat with his friends about his new embarkation. While the majority of the live stream proceeded without an issue, one moment drew viewers' attention because of Taeyong's reaction. Midway through reading a comment on his Instagram Live, he stopped and denied strongly with an exclamation.
Though the other fans watching the live stream couldn't understand what the question was, after connecting with what Taeyong read halfway, fans found the comment that the idol was reacting to. When fans found out that the full comment asked if Taeyong was dating his fellow member, Jaehyun, they were not only angered but also disappointed to ask such an unrelated question.
Fans express their frustration over the shipper who asked if NCT's Taeyong was dating a fellow member
When NCT's Taeyong came live after a long time, fans rejoiced and had a great time talking to each other. Since the live stream was focused on Taeyong's upcoming solo album, SHALALA, which is his first step as a soloist, most of the conversations revolved around the same.
However, fans were really upset when NCT's Taeyong received this comment:
hold your nose if you date Jaehyun??
Since it's quite common for K-pop fans to ask their idols to do something in order to indirectly get an answer from them, NCT's Taeyong started to read it thinking it was a normal question. However, once he realized the entirety of the comment, he stopped midway and exclaimed:
whatt??...Noo...
Given that the live stream was to concentrate on Taeyong's solo album, fans were disappointed at the misplacement of priorities by the netizen who typed the question. Additionally, fans were also angered at taking ships between members of the K-pop groups to extremes. While many agreed that it's okay to ship, they also believed that it's better to keep it within the fandom to respect the K-pop idols' boundaries.
Following the incident, fans flooded Twitter with their opinions and reactions. While some made fun of the comment, others expressed strong frustration and also stated they were embarrassed by the image it would have created for Taeyong about his fans.
NCT's Taeyoung's solo album SHALALA will release on June 5, 2023
While there were vague announcements a few weeks ago regarding Taeyong's solo debut, on May 14, 2023, it was officially announced that he would be rolling out his first solo mini-album, SHALALA. The album is slated for release on June 5, 2023, at 6 PM KST, and given the unique and intriguing concept photos revealed so far, fans have been excited to learn what's in store for them.
Though fans have witnessed a few solo projects from the idol, like Long Flight, his collaborative track with Wonstien, Love Theory, and the several other songs produced, they are thrilled to witness an entire album filled with tracks created by the leader and main rapper of the group, NCT's Taeyong.
As fans support Taeyong on his new embarkation, they also continue to express their anger and frustration at the people who take ships to extreme situations.
