The subject of the January 6 riots was discussed in the latest episode of Timcast IRL, a podcast hosted by the right-wing political commentator Tim Pool. A segment from the episode, live-streamed nine hours ago (at the time of writing this), was uploaded on X on Friday, December 20, 2024, and has since gone viral.

In the segment, Pool spoke passionately in defense of the prisoners of the January 6 riots while Luke Beasley, a leftist influencer who was a guest on the podcast, listened in silence.

Berating Beasley for lacking factual knowledge about the incident he was debating on, Pool said:

“You don't care what the facts are. You don't care if this is unjust. You only care that the machine state has decreed, you are now to be locked up.”

The podcaster went on to describe the issue at hand as a prime example of the problem he had with "the left," adding:

"This is the problem I have with the left. They don't know the facts. They view morality as a blanket, government stroke of the pen. And every person, regardless of their crime, should be in prison for decades."

The podcast episode comes in light of a report from House Republicans released on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, which recommended Liz Cheney's prosecution by the FBI. As per CNN, the report claims that the former GOP Rep. played a role in the January 6 riots and the subsequent attack on the US Capitol Building.

Over 1,000 people have been sentenced in relation to the January 6 riots

The debate over the prisoners of the January 6 riots comes three years after the incident took place at the US Capitol Building in Washington D.C. It all started on January 5, 2021, when thousands of alleged Trump supporters gathered in D.C. to support his claims of election theft.

On January 6, 2021, a joint session of Congress gathered in the Capitol to count the Electoral College votes, which would formalize Joe Biden's victory as the President-elect.

However, before the counting could be completed, a self-coup was attempted by alleged Trump's supporters to keep him in power. According to the FBI, between 2,000 and 2,500 people entered the building, participating in vandalism, looting, and assault of Capitol police officers and journalists. Law enforcement officers also found pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails in a vehicle near the Capitol.

As the violence escalated within the building, Trump resisted sending in the National Guard to quell the mob. Later that afternoon, he posted a video on X, restating the false claims about the election and then asking his supporters to "go home in peace."

By evening, the Capitol Building was emptied of the attackers, and voting resumed, ultimately making the attack unsuccessful. By the early morning of January 7, 2021, the counting was completed, and Mike Pence declared Joe Biden president and Kamala Harris vice president.

Within 36 hours, five people involved in the attack lost their lives, with many others injured. According to the Department of Justice (DoJ), 140 police officers were assaulted during the attack, over 80 from the Capitol Police and approximately 60 from the Washington DC police department. Approximately 1,561 people were allegedly charged criminally relating to the attack in the federal court.

As per DoJ, the January 6 riots caused over $2.8 million in damage to government property. Moreover, four responding officers died by suicide within seven months of the January 6 riots.
