Political pundit Nick Fuentes, who's known for his far-right political affiliation, was arrested on November 27, 2024, on Class A misdemeanor battery charges. He was released on the same day and is set to appear in court on December 19, 2024.
Fuentes' arrest came after he was reportedly involved in an altercation with a woman, Marla Rose, outside his home in Berwyn, Illinois. On November 10, Rose reportedly visited Fuentes' house to confront him about his controversial social media post about abortion rights. The influencer wrote, "Your body, my choice. Forever," after the election of Donald Trump as president last month.
In a video recorded by Marla Rose, Nick Fuentes can be seen spraying mace or pepper spray on the former. He also allegedly snatched and damaged Rose's phone. The influencer was taken into custody by Berwyn Police on the same day but was released with a court summons 27 minutes later.
Alleged mugshots of Nick Fuentes after his arrest went viral online, and fans took to X to comment on the same. One X user supposedly mocked the influencer about his aforementioned post on abortion rights and wrote:
"Your body, your cellmate's choice. Forever."
"What if I had told you a year ago that Trump and Fuentes would both be taking iconic mugshots," another user wrote.
"Thought it was Freddie Mercury at first," another netizen joked.
"This is going to be in our grandchildren’s history textbooks," a fan added.
Many users also questioned Fuentes' arrest in their comments:
"What!!!! They arrested YOU because some crazy lady trespassed onto your property to harass you??! You have GOT to be kidding me," a user opined.
"Did they really arrest you for defending your home that was publicly leaked and threatened? Not a big fan of you but that’s crazy," a fan commented.
"Okay but this is a fire mug shot I’m ngl," another X user chimed in.
Nick Fuentes' home address was circulated online after his controversial social media post on abortion rights
On November 6, 2024, far-right activist Nick Fuentes took to X (formerly Twitter) to write a post about abortion rights. His post came a day after Republican nominee Donald Trump won the 2024 US Presidential elections.
"Your body, my choice. Forever," he wrote.
For those uninformed, "your body, my choice" is seemingly a mockery of the popular pro-abortion slogan, "my body, my choice" that is often used as a cry for reproduction rights.
Fuentes' post garnered a lot of controversy on social media, with his post accumulating 99.7 million views, over 52K likes, and 21K replies (as of writing). According to NBC News, the influencer was also doxxed and his home address was shared on various social media platforms after his controversial statement. The outlet further reported that many users circulated the influencer's personal details online, with the caption,
“Your house, our choice.”
According to 57-year-old Marla Rose, she visited Fuentes' home on November 10, 2024, after seeing his aforementioned social media post. According to a police report filed on November 11, Rose claimed that Fuentes pepper sprayed her, pushed her, and broke her phone outside his home in Berwyn, Illinois. The report, however, asserted that Rose's eyes were "watery" but she did not sustain any physical injuries.
Nick Fuentes was arrested on battery charges on November 27 but released on the same day. The political activist shared his mugshot images on his X as well. The aforementioned police report also included statements from Fuentes, where he claimed that since he "posted a political joke online", he has been facing "death threats". The influencer claimed that he has seen “people showing up to his house unannounced” and has been “in fear for his life."
According to the report, another woman who had driven by Fuentes' house saw a man shoving a woman outside his house. The police reportedly arrived when Marla Rose was still at the house and the two were separated. The police claimed that Nick Fuentes “became uncooperative” and refused to answer any additional questions about the alleged altercation.
Nick Fuentes' comments on social media and his arrest have led to multiple controversies online. According to an analysis report by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (quoted via CNN), sexist remarks such as "your body, my choice" and "get back to the kitchen" have rocketed on social media since Trump's reelection. Since Fuentes' viral post on abortion rights, the ISD has recorded a 4,600% increase in the mentions of the phrase on X.
Nick Fuentes was also trending on TikTok and X following the influencer's post. The sexist phrase "we own your body" was also found trending on TikTok, as reported by CNN.
Nick Fuentes is scheduled to appear at the Maybrook Courthouse in Illinois on December 19, 2024.
