Social media users had a lot to say about Elon Musk's tweet regarding making GLP inhibitors cheaper for the public against the backdrop of Luigi Mangione's alleged manifesto. X (formerly known as Twitter) user Jeremy Kauffman took to the platform on Tuesday, December 10, and posted a part of suspected UHC shooter Luigi Mangione's alleged manifesto that compared the expensive nature of U.S. healthcare to the country's life expectancy.

Kauffman created a thread on X arguing against Magione's claims about the healthcare system. X owner, Elon Musk, took to the platform on Wednesday, December 11 and responded to Kauffman's initial tweet by stating:

"Nothing would do more to improve the health, lifespan and quality of life for Americans than making GLP inhibitors super low cost to the public. Nothing else is even close."

He added:

"A lot of people will complain about this post, but I am right,"

Social media users were not completely on board with Elon's claim. One X user who went by @leslie59904273 tweeted:

"I'm not sure about this. That's like ozempic right? We don't know the long-term effects of taking that drug forever. Some who don't really need it are jumping on board to be Hollywood skinny,"

Similar reactions followed as social media users thought that "cleaning up the food supply" was the better idea. Here are a few reactions to Musk's tweet:

"Actually cleaing up the food supply like RFK Jr has talked about would do more to improve the health, lifespan and quality of life", said one X user.
"Getting rid of the poison in our foods would diminish the need for diabetes drugs in the 1st place.", added another user.
"Fix the food.", rallied one netizen.
"How about addressing the root cause instead of relying on Big Pharma’s latest cash cow? Fix the toxic food system, end seed oil subsidies, and prioritize real nutrition—GLP inhibitors wouldn’t even be necessary", thought yet another netizen.

More and more people stated outright that this was not the way to address health concerns and blamed people's lives and diet choices.

"No this is not the way!", proclaimed Americans for Health Freedom founder Mary Talley Bowden MD
"Nope. It is not poor health care. It is poor life choices and diet. People need to fix themselves before they complain about the system.", said another user.
"But this is a band-aid solution. We need to address the root of the problem which stems from lifestyle measures such as diet, exercise and sleep.", added yet another netizen.

"The problems simply remain": Luigi Mangione's alleged manifesto

On Wednesday, December 11, journalist Ken Klippenstein published an alleged copy of Luigi Mangione’s manifesto. Klippenstein claimed that the document was the real deal and not "the forgery circulating online". Mangione began the alleged manifesto by addressing it to "the feds".

The suspect seemingly claimed that he respected what "the feds" did for the country and stated that he was working alone. All he required to do what he allegedly did was "some elementary social engineering, basic CAD, a lot of patience".

Mangione detailed that a spiral notebook in his possession had some relevant "straggling notes and to-do lists" and claimed that all his tech was locked down. Luigi Mangione allegedly stated:

"I do apologize for any strife of traumas but it had to be done. Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming. A reminder: the US has the #1 most expensive healthcare system in the world, yet we rank roughly #42 in life expectancy."

The suspected UHC shooter noted that UnitedHealthcare was the largest company in the US by market cap behind Apple, Google, and Walmart and has only continued growing. This, according to Luigi Mangione, was unlike the life expectancy rate in the country which did not grow parallelly to UHC.

Mangione allegedly claimed that such health insurance companies had gotten "too powerful" and continued to abuse the country for profits because the public allowed them to get away with it. Luigi Mangione allegedly wrote:

"Obviously the problem is more complex, but I do not have space, and frankly I do not pretend to be the most qualified person to lay out the full argument. But many have illuminated the corruption and greed (e.g.: Rosenthal, Moore), decades ago and the problems simply remain."

Luigi Mangione concluded his alleged manifesto by claiming that the issue was not about "awareness" anymore but about the "power games at play". The suspect proclaimed that he was evidently the first to face the issue with "such brutal honesty".
