The movies tell stories based on the real-life experiences of Ed and Lorraine Warren. The two were known for investigating ghostly happenings and writing about them, although their work was controversial. The main set of movies follows Ed and Lorraine as they try to help people haunted by evil spirits. Some other movies in this collection explore the backstory of the spooky creatures the Warrens encountered.

The Conjuring Universe has done really well at the box office, making $2.0 billion. It cost $169 million to make all these movies combined. This makes it the second-highest-earning horror movie series. Critics have had mixed opinions about these movies, but overall, they have been mostly positive.

It made $320.3 million all over the world, even though it cost $40 million to make. It became the second highest-earning horror movie ever, right after The Exorcist, until It came out in 2017.

David F. Sandberg, the director of Lights Out, took over from Leonetti to direct this movie. Dauberman wrote the script again, and Safran and Wan were back as producers. It came out worldwide on August 11, 2017, and did well with both critics and at the box office.
