Wi Ha-joon gets betrayed by his first love and dearest friend: The Worst of Evil ending explained

The last episode of The Worst of Evil begins with Park Jun-mo helplessly watching his colleague and friend, Seok Do-young, being shot down by Seo Jong-ryul, the Gangnam Union member. Jong-ryul has discovered Jun-mo's real identity.

The scene then shifts to the ongoing confrontation between the leader of Gangnam Union, Jung Gi-cheul, with Choi Jung-bae and Hong Hee-sung. The two are his old friends who betray him and hand him over to a corrupt officer.

While the police take Gi-cheul into their car, he sees his first love, Yu Eui-jeong, and they look at each other with astonishment, radiating a feeling of sadness.

As Gi-cheul is on the way to the police station with the corrupt cop and his friend Jung-bae inside the car, they get into a planned accident. This accident was caused by Jun-mo, who came to rescue Gi-cheul. Jun-mo soon takes him to a safe place and makes the final bet of exposing the corrupt organization spanning Japan, China, and South Korea.

Meanwhile, The Worst of Evil's Lee Hae-ryeon discovers the real identity of Jun-mo and Eui-jeong through the corrupt police officer, who are cop husband and wife in real life. She (Lee Hae-ryeon) calls Jun-mo to test him and finds out that even though Jun-mo never really loved her, he asked her to leave South Korea, indicating his desire to keep her safe from the police. She later kills the corrupt officer to save Jun-mo.

The final encounter begins after Jun-mo and Gi-cheul have a comforting talk about living a normal life, which Gi-cheul never got a chance to do.

Later, as the pair goes out to take down the traitors of Gangnam Union, as per Gi-cheul's instructions, he finally discovers Jun-mo's true identity in The Worst of Evil.

Jun-mo handcuffs Gi-cheul and intentionally leaves his car key in the vehicle, allowing the latter to escape because of the bond they developed over time. Meanwhile, he takes down the traitors, who are Gi-cheul's old friends. Jun-mo arrests them, ending the international drug supply throughout Japan, South Korea, and China.

Subsequently, after learning of Do-young's death, Jun-mo and his wife, Eui-jeong, attend his memorial and head back home. While everything appears peaceful, Gi-cheul surprises them at their home, having discovered that they are married. He comments on how good they look as a couple.

A showdown occurs between the trio, during which Gi-cheul accuses them of betrayal and asserts they will never find happiness. Eui-jeong readily agrees, and as Gi-cheul is about to take his life with a gun to his head, Jun-mo acts quickly.

Sadly, Gi-cheul dies a tragic death in the arms of his first love Eui-jeong, having been betrayed by everyone he trusted. He was betrayed by the Gangnam Union members, his first love, and the person he regarded as more than a brother, Jun-mo, as The Worst of Evil concludes.

Eui-jeong cries and Jun-mo calls the police to inform them of the capture of the wanted criminal. Subsequently, the pair receives a promotion for their courageous deeds.

However, their love fades, and they separate. Jun-mo visits Gi-cheul's grave, lighting a cigarette and placing down his ring, symbolizing the end of his relationship with his wife and friend, Gi-cheul.

In the end, Jun-mo and Gi-cheul are seen smoking cigarettes and walking through the streets of Gangnam, smiling with eyes full of trust in each other. The scene provides a contrasting ending to the story as if Jun-mo had joined forces with Gi-cheul. But this seems like a far-fetched dream to viewers of The Worst of Evil.

Will there be a season 2 for The Worst of Evil?

The Worst of Evil ending provided straightforward closure for every character, including Jun-mo, Gi-cheul, and Eui-jeong, and life will never be the same for them. While Gi-cheul met his demise at the hands of those he trusted, the couple lost their love for each other and their original investigative purpose.

There has yet to be an official statement from Disney+ regarding the renewal of The Worst of Evil. Still, it is highly unlikely that the drama will be renewed for a second season, especially considering the amount of closure in the last episode.

Viewers can binge-watch The Worst of Evil, which consists of twelve episodes, on Disney+.
