Multiple sources report that Canadian firefighters are joining the battle to put out the LA wildfires. Canada's emergency preparedness minister, Harjit Sajjan, mentioned in a social media post that 250 firefighters, along with Canadian military personnel and their equipment, were ready to support the "American neighbors".

Sajjan mentioned that "Team Canada, with Ontario, Quebec and Alberta, is ready to deploy 250 firefighters, aircraft equipment and other resources as early as" the night of January 9, 2025.

Additionally, X account @OliLondonTV posted a video of planes from Quebec using seawater to extinguish the LA wildfires in Pacific Palisades. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also took to X on January 9, 2025, to share a video of a plane scattering water across the raging wildfires. The caption read:

"Neighbours helping neighbors."

Netizens quickly took to X to express their opinions on Canada assisting in putting out the LA wildfires. Commenting on the same and referring to Trump's talk of wanting to annex Canada, an X user tweeted:

"This doesn't mean we aren't annexing them. For now."

Additionally, netizens called out California for not having adequate resources to combat a natural calamity:

"I wonder why California doesn't have a squadron of those. Oh yeah, they spent all the money on DEI and trips around the world for the politicians." an internet user stated
"WHY does the richest state in America have no firefighting planes of their own?" another internet user said

Moreover, internet users appreciated Canada helping the U.S during the ongoing crisis:

"Thank you, Canada. California can use all the help they can get right now." an X user tweeted

Several prominent Canadian political personnel have expressed their intent and plan of action to help the U.S. extinguish the LA wildfires. On January 10, 2025, British Columbia Forests Minister Ravi Parmar took to X to mention that CAL FIRE made a request via their agreement with BC Wildfire Service that one of their units be sent to California to assist in extinguishing the wildfires.

He added:

"California is always there when we in BC need wildfire support - it’s only right that we return the courtesy."

Additionally, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reportedly said on January 9, 2025:

“Unfortunately, Canada has developed a significant amount of expertise in wildfires that are encroaching on suburban and urban areas.”

Trudeau, who was in Washington to attend the funeral of former U.S. president Jimmy Carter, mentioned that he was exchanging information about offering Canadian resources to help with the wildfire with California Governor Gavin Newsom.

According to a report by Global News dated January 9, 2025, the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre gave a statement mentioning that it had received a request from the National Interagency Fire Center, asking for two CL-415 skimmer air tankers and flight crews to assist in Southern California.


As per The Albertan's report dated January 10, 2025, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna reported that thousands have been injured in the Pacific Palisades fire, with five people even losing their lives. The sheriff mentioned that the toll might rise with search crews and cadaver dogs searching the debris.

Over 100,000 people have evacuated themselves because of the LA wildfires and multiple landmarks have been threatened by the fire.
