The Late Show host Stephen Colbert recently made headlines by mocking Donald Trump for canceling the "60 Minutes" interview. On October 8, 2024, Kamala Harris appeared on The Late Show, and Stephen Colbert's opening of the interview garnered a lot of attention.

Mocking Trump for canceling his appearance on the "60 Minutes" interview scheduled on October 7, 2024, Colbert said:

"It has been a tradition at The Late Show since yesterday that the major party candidates sit down with me for an interview in October. "

Making a spoof of the "60 Minutes" interview by acting like correspondent Scott Pelley, Colbert mentioned:

"We invited Kamala Harris to be our guest this evening and she accepted that interview in a moment. In the interest of fairness, we also invited former president Donald Trump to go f**k himself."

Internet users believe Colbert mocked Trump for canceling his appearance at the "60 Minutes" interview, which stemmed from the former president demanding an apology for the claims made during his 2020 interview with "60 Minutes" correspondent Leslie Stahl.

Trump abruptly stopped the 2020 interview expressing discontent toward Leslie's questions and demanded an apology before appearing for another interview.

Colbert's opening for his interview with Harris received reactions from internet users which they expressed via X. Commenting on Donald Trump stating "I hate Taylor Swift" after she endorsed Kamala, an X user tweeted:

"Tomorrow morning “I HATE STEPHEN COLBERT"
"Stephen, you had me at the 60 Minutes set. Then you won me over with inviting Trump to go f**k himself. Vote for sanity," one X user said.
"Colbert NEVER fails to deliver the goods. 😂" another X user stated.
"You go stephen. You go." an internet user commented.

Some internet users supported Stephen's act of mocking Trump by adding their perspectives on the same.

"Trump losing his mind? You can’t lose what you never had in the first place." an X user mentioned.
"If the media only reported on things Trump did right, we'd never hear another word about him, again." another X user stated.
"Can’t wait to see Trump’s reaction! This will be epic!" an internet user commented.

"Smells like consequences"- Stephen Colbert comments on special counsel report on Trump's effort to steal the election

On October 4, 2024, Stephen Colbert presented the 165-page report by special counsel Jack Smith comprising details of Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the presidential election in 2020. The report consists of evidence, such as conversations with the former president's family members, and showcases that Trump's actions weren't covered by the Supreme Court's presidential immunity ruling.

As per the report, Donald Trump was aware he lost the 2020 election, however, the former president encouraged false claims of voter fraud and resorted to crimes to hold onto his power position.

Holding the report by special counsel Jack Smith in his hands during the interview, Colbert mentioned:

“Well, surprise! Mhmmm, that’s beefy. Smells like consequences.”

Colbert added that everyone knew the stuff in the report already but it was "gratifying to read the novelization of the horror movie" everyone lived through. Commenting on the wording of the report, Stephen Colbert also mentioned:

“Pretty damning language, but kinda weird word choice to say Trump ‘resorted’ to crimes. That’s like saying ‘With nowhere else to turn, the bear resorted to pooping in the woods.’”

Stephen Colbert has been very vocal in his opinion of Trump and on September 25, 2024, The Late Show host responded to Trump's comment on him. Trump called Colbert "very boring" in a post on Truth Social in September 2024 and Colbert responded to the former president by saying that Trump is 78 years old so he's out of the demo and nobody cared if he watched Colbert.
