Black Wolf, a ride-sharing app launched by a former private investigator, Kerry King Brown, offers something new that makes it stands out from traditional ridesharing apps, armed ridesharing. The app, launched only last week, offers users protected transport across locations. Black Wolf currently has about 15 cars across greater Atlanta and plans to expand to New York.
The app is available on both Google Play store and Apple app store, by the name BlackWolfExecsInc. It has amassed over 80,000 downloads since its launch. Black Wolf makes use of gun-trained personnel, GPS tracking, and Live streaming technology to offer customers an executive level of protection.
Currently, the app offers three ridesharing options: Armed Executive Protection Driver, Unarmed Executive Protection Driver, and School Executive Protection Driver. Armed drivers charge a base rate of $60 and unarmed drivers, $50 with a traveling cost of $1.75 per mile.
As an added service, the app also provides armored vehicles with bulletproof windows to qualified people. The service can only be availed after submitting a form on the website.
The app went viral on social media and netizens had hilarious reactions to it. Most users responded by making fun of the concept that they've only seen in video games. They took to the comments section of @DailyLoud's post about the news and shared their thoughts on the same.
Black Wolf ads and content on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok claim that the drivers will ensure door-to-door protection, meaning that the driver will escort the passenger, even once they've gotten out of the vehicle. The driver will leave the location once the passenger's safety is ensured.
Black Wolf sparks meme fest on Twitter
Netizens took to Twitter to post gifs and pictures, comparing the app to viral memes and videogames while others joked ironically that the app was a good way to move contraband.
However, several Twitter users were also concerned about sitting in a car with an armed stranger. Netizens wondered about what would happen if the driver decided to be the bad guy.
Company to hire drivers with licensed firearms
According to an Instagram post by the company, Black Wolf will be hiring drivers who have at least five years of experience working as military officers, private security, or law enforcement officials. They will be required to be certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED.
Interested individuals will also need to have CCW, security guard cards, and a licensed firearm. They will be subject to comprehensive background checks before being hired.
Kerry King Brown told the New York Post that an average person without the requisite background in gun handling will have to go through comprehensive training. All drivers will be trained to de-escalate tense situations.
The app's founder has worked as a private Investigator and bodyguard for famous personalities like Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. The 32-year-old described the app as a "necessary evil," which had to be created in order to combat the alarming rise of gun violence in America.
