Comedian Anthony Jeselnik recently made fun of fellow comic and popular podcaster Joe Rogan during his Netflix stand-up special Bones and All, which aired on November 26.
“And yes, I did mention Joe Rogan. Do not get me wrong, I like Joe. Joe’s my friend, Joe’s a good guy. But if you listen to his podcast, you’re a f**king loser,” Jeselnik quipped towards the end of the show.
He further joked that his brother-in-law is the “biggest fan” of Joe Rogan, adding that he “never misses an episode” and doesn’t think that four hours is “long enough.”
“My brother-in-law is Joe Rogan’s target demographic. My brother-in-law is a conspiracy theorist. A crazy, conspiracy theorist,” Anthony continued.
The 45-year-old explained that his brother-in-law also “refuses to become an organ donor."
"He swears if you get into an accident and the paramedics see that you’re an organ donor, they won’t try to save your life. Because they wanna use your organs to save someone else. It’s insane, but I can’t argue with him because he’s a paramedic,” he delivered the punchline.
His joke about Joe Rogan and his fanbase has gone viral and triggered diverse reactions from netizens, with many calling him out.
“This guy watches CNN and The View instead,” a person wrote.
“Says the guy that dated Amy Schumer,” one person wrote.
“This is like that other comedian making fun of Ricky Gervais. Just the most embarrassing sh*t ever. Don’t they know how pathetic it looks to dedicate entire segments of your taped special to disparage a more successful peer?” wrote another.
"I didn’t even laugh and I barely watch Joe Rogan," a user wrote.
Meanwhile, some others appreciated Anthony Jeselnik’s joke.
“That’s a good joke,” a netizen wrote.
“Punchline sells it if you listen lol,” another netizen wrote.
“It’s just a setup for a pretty funny tag,” an individual wrote.
“That punchline got me--excellent joke,” another user wrote.
So far, Joe Rogan has not addressed Anthony Jeselnik's jokes during his Netflix special, which celebrated his 20 years in the comedy scene.
Exploring Anthony Jeselnik’s previous mention of Joe Rogan
On November 21, Anthony Jeselnik appeared for an interview with Vulture and called comedian Tony Hinchcliffe "a troll, basking in the shadow of Joe Rogan" whose jokes were "hack as hell."
His comment came after the Kill Tony host's performance at Donald Trump’s campaign rally on October 27, 2024, at the Madison Square Garden in New York City. Elsewhere, he also claimed that his brand of dark comedy was better, smarter, and funnier than the kind of “edge lord comedy” done by the likes of Joe Rogan.
Meanwhile, Joe Rogan, who continues to be one of the leading podcasters with his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, recently had A-lister guests, including Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
Amid this, Anthony told Marc Maron on the November 25 episode of the latter's podcast WTF that people like Rogan were "seduced" by power and his photo with Trump made him "sick."
“It’s not even so much the interview as the victory lap that bothers me. If they were f**king with these guys at all, I’d have no problem with it. But they’re not,” he explained.
After Anthony Jeselnik's Bones and All aired, Vulture interviewer Kathryn VanArendonk sat down with the comedian. Kathryn claimed on X on November 27 that Jeselnik told her he wouldn’t have called Rogan a "good guy" or mentioned liking him if his Netflix special was filmed post-election.
Notably, earlier this month, Anthony talked about Joe Rogan in his own podcast, The Jeselnik & Rosenthal Vanity Project. He discussed the possibility of a "liberal Joe Rogan" and finally decided that the idea sounded like “sh*t.” Likewise, during a conversation with Cracked last week, he shared:
"Conservatives have what works for them and a lot of that is conspiracy theory and 'We're ultra-masculine.' Joe Rogan doesn't work without MMA. It used to be, like, he was the weed guy — now, he's the weed guy and the MMA guy, and he's perfectly suited to this role of the conservative Joe Rogan."
For the unversed, Anthony Jeselnik crossed paths with Joe Rogan when he appeared on the latter's podcast in April 2019.
Before Bones and All, Anthony released two other Netflix specials, Thoughts and Prayers and Fire in the Maternity Ward, in 2015 and 2019, respectively.
