The Georgia Guidestones used to be a granite monument in Elbert County, Georgia, USA, between 1980 and 2022. The Guidestones sustained heavy damage during a bombing on July 6, 2022, and were dismantled later that day.
The Georgia Guidestones dominated the county's highest altitude, which is located in the northeastern part of the state's Piemonte. The structure used to be called "American Stonehenge" due to its striking resemblance to the well-known English monument. On March 22, 1980, the Georgia Guidestones, with a weight of 119 tonnes, were unveiled to a crowd of about 100 people.
What is the History of the Georgia Guidestones?
The Guidestones enigma, located in Elberton, a town about 110 miles east of Atlanta called "the granite capital of the world," goes back to the late '70s. At that time, the Elbert County House cited a man named R.C. Christian was responsible for the memorial, stating that he represented a small group of faithful Americans who believe in God.
Then subsequently we learned that R.C. Christian was an alias, but only one person participated in the development of the guiding stones and was said to have used the true name of Christian, so as to advance in building the monument. The Christian that represented, however, wanted to stay totally anonymous.
The funders of Guidestones wanted to make “a moralistic appeal” to humanity, according to the commercial group, and carved 10 guidelines on the stones. The multilingual Human Resource Manual has been a popular place for visitors over the last four decades.
What is the inscription on the Georgia Guidestones?
A message composed of a set of 10 directives or principles has been etched in eight different languages - English, Spanish, Swahili, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Traditional Chinese, and Russian - on the Georgia Guidestones. On each side, there is one language, on the four large straight stones. The inscriptions were based on four principal themes; "governance and the establishment of a global government, population and reproduction control, the environment and the relationship between mankind and nature, and spirituality." The inscription is:
Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
Guide reproduction wisely – improving fitness and diversity.
Unite humanity with a living new language.
Rule passion – faith – tradition – and all things with tempered reason.
Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
Balance personal rights with social duties.
Prize truth – beauty – love – seeking harmony with the infinite.
Be not a cancer on the Earth – Leave room for nature – Leave room for nature.
Why were the Georgia Guidestones removed?
In the early morning of July 6, the town of Elberton in rural Georgia was shaken by a blast. Somebody had damaged the Georgia Guidestones, a landmark often referred to as the "Stonehenge of America". One week after the attack, none of the suspects were identified. Only a granular video of someone seemingly leaving an explosive device on the website was distributed. One local attorney said this was an "act of internal terrorism". The authorities have since torn down the remains of the monument for security reasons.
