Everything to know about carbon monoxide, the suspected reason for Dayle Haddon's demise

According to the Mayo Clinic, carbon monoxide is a colorless, tasteless, and odorless gas. The gas is produced from burning fuels like wood, gas, charcoal, or propane. Carbon monoxide buildup occurs when appliances and engines aren't vented properly, additionally, a tightly enclosed space can make carbon monoxide buildup worse.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is particularly threatening to individuals who are drugged, drunk, or asleep when exposure to the gas increases. The gas can result in death or brain damage before the issue is identified. When a person is exposed to carbon monoxide, they need to seek medical care and get fresh air immediately. If the person exposed to carbon monoxide poisoning cannot respond or is in a coma, someone should call emergency medical services or dial 911.

The suspected cause of Dayle Haddon's death affects both the heart and brain. Prolonged exposure to carbon monoxide can result in symptoms similar to flu without fever. Prominent symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include:

  • Weakness and Dizziness
  • Headache, Confusion, Drowsiness
  • Nausea or Vomiting, Blurry Vision, Shortness of breath
  • Loss of muscle control or consciousness

Additionally, some symptoms associated with the impact of carbon monoxide poisoning on the brain and nervous system can show up after recovery from the poisoning. The risk of such symptoms is higher in the elderly and in individuals who lose consciousness from the poisoning. The impact of carbon monoxide on the nervous system includes changes in personality, loss of memory, and issues with movement.

As reported by the New York Post, police mentioned that their investigation confirmed a faulty exhaust pipe and flue on a gas heating system were responsible for the carbon monoxide leak.

Ruling out any indication of foul play in Dayle Haddon's death, it was reported that Walter "Wally" Blucas was evacuated from the building and taken to a nearby hospital when rescuers became aware of Haddon still being inside the property. Dayle Haddon was discovered by the rescuers inside and pronounced dead at the scene.
