The Kardashians star Kim Kardashian opened up about her struggle with Psoriasis. During an appearence on the Tuesday, July 16, 2024, episode of the SHE MD podcast, the Reality TV star revealed that she had one region on her face that would itch like crazy at the time of the 2022 Met Gala. However, the Psoriasis outbreaks quickly covered her face, and Kim and her makeup artist had to cover up the outbreaks using concealer.
Psoriasis is a chronic disease in which the immune system becomes overactive, leading to skin cells multiplying rapidly. No exact causes of Psoriasis have been identified yet, but it is believed to be caused by genetic and environmental factors.
Kim Kardashian detailed her Psoriasis experience during the 2022 Met Gala
Kim Kardashian became quite candid about her struggles with Psoriasis during a recent episode of the SHE MD podcast hosted by Mary Alice Haney and Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi. The SKIMS founder told the podcast host that there was one spot in her face that itches, and when it itches, it "really, really" does. The NIH described Psoriasis as:
"A chronic (long-lasting) disease in which the immune system becomes overactive, causing skin cells to multiply too quickly. Patches of skin become scaly and inflamed, most often on the scalp, elbows, or knees, but other parts of the body can be affected as well."
However, it is still not fully understood what the actual cause of the disease is. The NIH and Mayo Clinic explain that scientists agree Psoriasis is caused by environmental and genetic factors. During the podcast, Kim Kardashian explained her struggle with the condition at the time of the 2022 Met Gala. She told the SHE MD podcast hosts:
"When I started to get a little bit desperate was when it started to cover my face, and there was a spot really close to my eye, and it would just burn a little bit."
She added:
"I remember I had the Met Ball coming up that week, and it was covering my face."
According to the NIH, some of the symptoms of the disease include dry, cracked skin that might itch or bleed, poor quality of sleep, thick, red patches of skin that present with "silvery-white scales" and may itch and bleed, and thick, ridged pitted nails. The symptoms of the disease can also go through cycles by flaring up for weeks or months and then going into remission for a while.
When asked if her Psoriasis was stress-related, Kim Kardashian declined and said she manages her stress pretty well. The Reality TV star explained that during the 2022 Met Gala, she and her makeup artist covered up her Psoriasis flare-up using a concealer that held on well, hiding the flare-up completely when Kim was on the red carpet.
Kim dealt with her Psoriasis problem by shifting her diet and using homeopathic creams and tar patches on her face. The American Academy of Dermatology explained that coal has been prescribed to treat Psoriasis for over 100 years. Despite conceding that she was doing everything possible to deal with the problem at the time of the Met, the Kardashian explained:
"Sometimes I get super insecure about it, and I put body makeup on. And sometimes I'm just like, I really don't care."
Kim Kardashian had previously talked about her 2022 Met Gala Psoriasis breakout in the August 2022 issue of Allure. She explained that apart from the Psoriasis, she was also hit with psoriatic arthritis at the time, preventing her from moving her hands.
"It was really painful, and I had to go to a rheumatologist who put me on a steroid. I was freaking out. I cut out the meat again, and it's calmed down."
In other news, Kim Kardashian and her sister Chloe recently attended the wedding of Anant Ambani, the son of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Merchant. Apart from the wedding in Mumbai, Kim and her sister were spotted at the ISKCON temple, where she served food to the children.
