Season 2 of the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians is in the writing, but there has yet to be a confirmation on which Rick Riordan book it will be based on. If it follows the book series, then season 2 of the series would be based on the second book, Sea of Monsters.
Based on the worldwide famous author Rick Riordan's famous fantastical book series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Disney+ series of the same name has been receiving applause and positive reviews by the fans of the book and critics for the faithfulness to the source material, the worldbuilding, and the performances of the cast.
Starring Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri, in the lead roles, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on the first book (The Lightning Thief) in the series of the same name by Riordan. The first season premiered on December 19, 2023, and will comprise 8 episodes in which demigods Percy, Annabeth, and Grover are sent on a quest to acquire the stolen lightning bolt and return it to a very agitated Zeus to stop him from going on a war against Percy Jackson’s father and Sea god Poseidon.
When will season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians be released?
Although the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is not yet over, Rick Riordan, the author of the book on which the Disney+ series is based, has shared some exciting news with the fans. Right before the release of season one of the show, the author updated the hardcore fans that season 2 of the show is already in writing which would possibly focus on the second book, Sea of Monsters in the series.
In his blog post, Riordan wrote, “We have started work on the writers’ room for season two. This does NOT mean the second season has been green-lit yet. It’s too early for that. But we have been approved to start developing scripts, and I think everyone’s expectation is that a second season will happen if all goes as planned. It sure is exciting to be part of the room, though. We’ve broken down the action of the second 'Percy Jackson' book, 'The Sea of Monsters,' into a series of episodes, and have begun outlining what the first episodes would look like."
The famous author has also clarified that season 2 of the series has not been greenlit by the makers yet and that the idea is only being discussed amongst the writers. Still, he hinted at great things to come if the show gets a go-ahead for season 2. His post reads, “This is all HYPOTHETICAL at this point. We have big plans, but nothing is green-lit (past the writers' room) and nothing is set in stone. Fingers crossed, though, the first season does as well as we hope, and leads to an even greater second!"
