Music content creator Finn McKenty, popular for his YouTube channel The Punk Rock MBA, recently announced that he was quitting the platform. During a December 12 interview with metalcore TikTok influencer Jesea Lee on his eponymous show, McKenty shared that his “interest” in music so far was driven by financial gains and nothing more.

“I don't have any plans to do anything on YouTube… I don't really have any interest in music. I was just doing it for the money and I hit my financial goals,” Finn stated.

The Punk Rock MBA host added:

“Our time on this earth is limited. Like, don't spend it doing sh*t you don't have to do if you don't want to, you know? It’s like I’ve made enough money. I don't have to keep making videos about System of a Down.”

Finn McKenty’s now-viral remarks about the reason why he was discontinuing uploading content on YouTube has stirred controversy online, with many calling him out for being a “grifter.” Here are some of the reactions about him from the social networking site, X.

“Finn McKenty announcing he is quitting YouTube, admitting he doesn’t like any of the music he would discuss, and was solely a grifter is truly the best news of 2024. Absolutely awful human,” a person wrote.
“So, you're telling me Finn McKenty, the dude with the background in marketing who constantly talks sh*t on bands and people who passionately enjoy music, the guy who got with his alt-right, anti-lgbt wife when she was only just 18, has been a grifter this whole time? I'm shocked,” another person wrote.
“IDK why the Finn McKenty thing is so shocking to people: dude let it be known multiple times that he basically hates musicians, thinks we're losers, has nothing but contempt for music fans, etc. He literally said that learning to play an instrument is a waste of time,” a user wrote.
“Finn McKenty being gone is a good thing for music btw,” another user wrote.

Others continued to chime in.

“Honestly, I still think he cared about Punk/Metal at one point. He just got tired of talking about the same bands, and resentment grew between him and his audience. At this point, it's probably a good thing he retired, and I wish him luck in his next endeavors,” a netizen wrote.
“If it was all about the money, why did he pick Rock & Metal and not a more lucrative genre like Rap or Country?” another netizen asked.
“Was always hilarious to me that the guy has ‘MBA’ in his name, and so many people actually considered him legit and ‘from the scene.’ Dude happened to grow up near punk but was a fraud from the very beginning. Have to assume he’s about to get REAL right-winged,” an individual wrote.

More about the drama surrounding Finn McKenty

During his latest appearance on The Jesea Lee Show, Finn McKenty explained his absence from YouTube, citing he was never interested in punk/ rock, or nu-metal music, and was making content to fulfill his financial goals.

Now that he was done, he had other things in mind, such as helping others via platforms like LinkedIn and growing his business there.

“I’ve sort of considered maybe doing like um maybe doing a channel sort of about entrepreneurship, maybe. But I don’t know because I have a feeling that a lot of people who know me for the music stuff would show up and be idiots,” he explained.

McKenty shared how he knew that his move would want people on Reddit and Twitter to “tear me down,” so, he might not even make another YouTube channel.

Finn also admitted that he never really heard a song made by System of a Down, an Armenian-American heavy metal band formed in California in 1994. The last time Finn McKenty uploaded content on YouTube was in September 2024.
