Church Militant founder and president Michael Voris is stepping down after breaching the organization’s morality clause. Specific details of the same were not made available online at the time of writing this article. However, co-host Christine Niles revealed on social media that she alerted the board of his “troubling” behavior that forced him into resignation.
The conservative Catholic media group said in a statement:
“The Board of Directors has chosen not to disclose Michael’s private matters to the public. The apostolate will be praying for him, and we kindly ask you to do the same.”
Michael Voris also took to X to address his resignation.
“There have been failings in that area with regard to me, my own personal behavior, not just the recent stuff here but all sorts of things that I don’t want to make excuses because there isn’t any or aren’t for what I have done… Sometimes it takes very horrible events even at your own hand, in your life to surface certain things that need to be faced. There are some very ugly truths from my past… that I have avoided.”
Voris also gave his “deepest heartfelt apologies” to those who were negatively affected by his actions. As he continued to address the matter, he said that he was “relieved” that his behavior had “surfaced” as he did not “like it.” He also added that he was seeking “professional” help.
“He is not the man I came to work for in 2014”: Christine Niles addresses Michael Voris’ departure from Church Militant
In her address, Christine Niles revealed that she had resigned from Church Militant this month on November 9, after expressing concerns about the organization. She claimed that the religious group was headed in a direction away from their mission.
Christine Niles also added that Michael Voris was going through a “personality change” and that he was “not the man” she “came to work for in 2014.” She stated that he had not regularly prayed with his staff in the past two years, which stood as a “massive warning sign.”
In the 8-minute long video, Niles also claimed that Voris, who is a former Fox News affiliate had hurt people in Church Militant including herself. She added:
“To say that I am heartbroken and furious is an understatement. There’s a lot of anger, there is a great deal of anger over this.”
Church Militant's earlier controversies revealed
Church Militant has drawn global attention in the past decade for its outspoken and often aggressive viewpoints. The organization has been critical of the LGBTQ community with Michael Voris also coming clean of his past actions. In 2016, Voris claimed that he was “confused about” his “own s*xuality” and slept with both men and women. He has since blamed his actions on liberal leadership in the Catholic Church.
The media group also drew criticism after calling former Archbishop Wilton Gregory an “African queen,” which has been deemed as racist and homophobic.
Church Militant has also been critical of Pope Francis and has collaborated with extremists like Milo Yiannopoulos in the past, who has infamously identified himself as “ex-gay.”
Michael Voris founded Church Militant in 2008 after graduating from Notre Dame in 1983. Before becoming the media house’s host he worked for CBS and Fox.
