Jamie Foxx was dropped from the Mike Tyson biopic due to age concerns.

The Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx lost his chance to play Mike Tyson in the biopic of his life. Martin Scorsese and Jamie Foxx's planned collaboration has been scrapped, according to Tyson.

In preparation for the role of the former undisputed heavyweight champion in 2020, Foxx has been bulking up and training in boxing for the past eight years. Tyson and Jamie Foxx discussed a deal to finally get his life story on film last year. However, Tyson claims that the project is on hold because Foxx was dropped.

The business associate in Las Vegas said, “Mike has been telling people Jamie is no longer going to be playing him.” “They are scouring casting agencies for an athlete who can act.” “It is such a shame, as Jamie has been telling people for years about playing Mike.” "Not only does he have his voice and body gestures down perfectly, but his body was in tremendous shape.”

“Tyson” (now “Mike”) is a limited series that Iron Mike, Scorsese, and Foxx announced last year. "I have been looking to tell my story for quite some time," Tyson said in a statement. “With the recent launch of the Legends Only League and the excitement from fans following my return to the ring, now feels like the perfect moment.”

When was Mike Tyson’s biopic series released?

The American miniseries “Mike” was developed by Steven Rogers. Trevante Rhodes and Russell Hornsby co-star in the series, which is an unofficial look into the life of boxer Mike Tyson. Rogers reteams with a number of "I, Tonya" (2017) collaborators, including the movie's executive producers Tom Ackerley, Margot Robbie, and Bryan Unkeless, as well as director Craig Gillespie.

On August 25, 2022, Hulu announced its debut. Tyson harshly criticized the series for being produced without his involvement or payment, and it received mixed reviews from critics.

Based on 32 critic reviews with an average score of 6.30/10, the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 44% approval rating for the movie. According to the website's critics' consensus:

"This unauthorized biopic of The Baddest Man on the Planet is undeniably ambitious as it weighs the legendary boxer's many contradictions, but it ultimately punches itself out with uneven execution.”

Based on 22 reviews from critics, the weighted average review site Metacritic gave the movie a score of 54 out of 100, classifying the reviews as "mixed or average."
