In December 2021, Nick Cannon announced that his five-month-old son, Zen Scott Cannon, had passed away from a brain tumor. Zen was the 7th child of Nick Cannon and the first of Alyssa Scott.

Cannon explained that he and Zen's mother, Alyssa Scott, discovered that Zen's respiration seemed unusual at the age of about 2 months. The couple noticed that his head looked somewhat on the big side. They initially thought he had a sinus problem and took him to his pediatrician. They found that the swelling in his head was caused by hydrocephalus from the brain tumor.

Hydrocephalus is an abnormal accumulation of liquid in the ventricles of the encephalon. This additional fluid forces the ventricles to expand and places pressure on the tissues of the brain.
