The upcoming Barbie movie has received a rating of PG-13.

Greta Gerwig’s upcoming American fantasy comedy movie based on Mattel’s Barbie dolls is slated to be released at the theaters on July 21, 2023. The film stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, John Cena, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, and many more.

The film revolves around Margot Robbie’s Barbie who is kicked out of the utopian Barbie land after she began displacing less Barbie-like behavior after which she has stars exploring the real world along with Ken (played by Ryan Gosling).

When it comes to Barbie, many would have assumed that the movie is majorly targeted toward kids. However, this assumption was proven wrong after the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) officially rated the film PG-13. For the unversed, a movie is rated PG-13 when some material may not be suited for children under age 13. Such films may have violence, nudity, sensuality, language, etc, but not similar to an R-rated film.

Well, after reviewing the association has rated the upcoming film PG-13. This means the film at some point consists of scenes that are not suitable for kids below 13 years old. Talking about one of them, during the trailer, Ryan Gosling’s Ken repeatedly tells Simu Liu’s Ken “I would beach you off” during their argument.

While revealing the reason for rating the film PG-13, the association stated, “suggestive references and brief language”, as the two main reasons for the decision. Hence, kids below the age of 13 will mandatorily need to have an adult guardian in order to watch Barbie in theaters.
