The show was filmed in Spain, Malta, Morocco, Croatia, Iceland, Canada, and the UK. Game of Thrones is based on A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of novels written by George R. R. Martin.

The Red Wedding occurred in the 9th episode, "The Rains of Castamere," of season 3 of the Game of Thrones. It is one of the most memorable episodes of the series, owing to the shock factor produced by the demise of so many beloved characters.

Following the Battle of the 5 Kings, a slaughter took place during the wedding reception of Roslin Frey and Riverrun's lord Edmure Tully at the Twins. Just after the reception, when Roslin and Edmure leave the party, Roose Bolton, who Catelyn considered to be her comrade, and his soldiers take tactful positions all around the room where the marriage feast is still in progress.

Despite Walder's holy word that Catelyn, Robb, and Talisa, who was then pregnant, would all be protected inside his house for the marriage, he deceived the Starks together with Bolton with the help of Tywin Lannister. All three were slain by Bolton and his soldiers.

Who planned the Red Wedding?

Walder Frey planned the Red Wedding in season 3 of the series, Game of Thrones. Back in Game of Thrones season two, Robb Stark met Talisa and fell in love, which created a complication because, at the time, he had been sworn to marry the vile Walder Frey's daughter, and in return that family would provide him significant benefits during the Battle of the Five Kings.

Robb, however, betrayed his word and wed Talisa instead of Frey's daughter. The Starks gave in to Walder Frey's new demands that Edmure Tully, Catelyn Stark's brother, and Robb's uncle, wed his daughter instead in order to ostensibly maintain the Stark/Frey alliance. Walder fooled the Starks with this arrangement and took his revenge by murdering them.
