Veteran actress and singer Barbra Streisand is all set to join Jewish Women for Kamala in support of the Democratic presidential candidate and current United States Vice President Kamala Harris. The actress announced on Monday, August 12, that she would be making an appearance as a guest speaker during the group's upcoming virtual gathering on Thursday, August 15.
Jewish Women for Kamala is an organization inspired by the Jewish values and ideals of the Democratic Party. The group aims to educate, empower, and activate Jewish Democratic women to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as President and VP and also amplify the goals and accomplishments of the Biden-Harris administration.
Kamala Harris receives support from Barbra Streisand and Jewish American women
A Star is Born star Barbra Streisand will make an appearance on Thursday's Jewish Women for Kamala virtual meeting. The group supported by the Jewish Democratic Council of America released a post on Facebook and other social media, alongside Streisand announcing her arrival on Monday. The Facebook post was captioned:
"WE’VE GOT BARBRA!!! Beyond thrilled to announce that the one and only BARBRA STREISAND will be joining in for the #JewishWomenforKamala call on Thursday! Join us to hear from the legend herself about why she’s all in for Kamala!"
Barbra Streisand is a prominent Democratic donor, an outspoken supporter of the Biden-Harris administration, and a vociferous critic of Republican presidential candidate and former United States president Donald Trump. Just recently, on Monday, August 12, the Academy Award winner tweeted criticism of Trump's invitation-only news conference from the week prior. She said:
"I was shocked watching Trump’s press conference at Mar-a-Lago (the place where he stored the stolen classified documents). So many of his lies went unchallenged. He said his crowds were bigger than Martin Luther King Jr., which just shows how deluded he is."
In yet another tweet from April 17 of this year, Barbra Streisand wanted people to judge the "character of a President" more closely. She called Donald Trump a vain and vindictive "pathological liar" whose only goal was to make more money and attain more power to "prop up his fragile ego."
The call is all set to be held on August 15 at 8 pm ET. To register for the event, users were asked to visit the group's official website. According to the website, the voter-led call was organized to show "enthusiasm and support" for presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz. The website declared that Kamala and Tim looked out for Jewish women, so it was time for Jewish women to show that they have the candidates' backs too.
All genders and Jewish allies were welcome to join the call. The call was hosted by Jewish Women for Kamala and co-sponsored by the Jewish Democratic Council of America Political Action Committee (JDCA PAC) and the official Facebook group of Jewish Women for Kamala Harris. The call was not authorized by any candidate or their committee.
The group, powered by Jewish Democratic Women for Action, consists of a large, diverse network of Jewish women around the United States volunteering to help Harris and Walz. The group's vision, as stated on its official website, read:
"Jewish Women for Kamala embraces a future in which all Jewish Democratic women possess the knowledge, opportunity, and supportive community needed to preserve and strengthen American democracy."
As mentioned earlier, the group's mission further stated that Jewish Women for Kamala built "capacity and community" by helping educate, empower, and activate Jewish Democratic women to elect Harris and Walz as president and VP. The group also aimed to amplify the accomplishments and goals of the current administration and engage in "all levels" of the political process.
The Jewish Democratic Council of America has shown immense support to the Kamala Harris campaign. In a July 26 report on their official website, the JDCA stated that the current VP was "delivering for Jewish Americans." Two of Kamala Harris's highlights mentioned in the report were her active role in defending democracy and voting rights and reproductive freedom and abortion rights, which were specified as "priority policy issues" for Jewish Americans.
Another highlight mentioned by the JDCA was Kamala Harris's commitment to Israel. This included the Biden-Harris administration's role in securing aid for Israel, their calls for the elimination of the threat posed to Israel by Hamas, their role in bringing home Israeli hostages and assisting Israeli intelligence, and the administration's efforts to protect Israel from Iranian aggression and Hezbollah.
Kamala's engagement with Israeli leaders was also highlighted with a focus on her June 25 meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Kamala Harris's commitment to fighting antisemitism and her engagement with Jewish traditions and the Jewish community were also highlighted by the JDCA.
