Netflix is all set to return with its hit reality series, The Ultimatum. The series sees couples test complex commitments and choices as they decide whether to stay with their partner or find new love that is more in sync with them. This upcoming iteration of the show is titled The Ultimatum: Queer Love. It will have a new group of five LGBTQ+ couples with female and non-binary partners in same-sex relationships.

Most viewers who have watched The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On already know the format of the show. This time it will ensure higher stakes, more drama, and less predictability. This series will be split into multiple parts, something that Netflix is slowly trying to do in its shows.

The first four episodes of the reality series will release on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 3 am ET. This will be followed up by three more episodes on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. The final batch of episodes will drop on June 7, 2023.

The five couples in The Ultimatum: Queer Love include:

  • Vanessa Papa and Xander
  • Lexi Goldberg and Raelyn
  • Mal Wright and Yoly Rojas
  • Tiff Der and Mildred Bustillo
  • Sam and Aussie.

Lexi Goldberg and Raelyn are the youngest couple in this edition of the show and are aged between 25 and 27. Tiff Der and Mildred Bustillo are an interesting addition, as Mildred has already issued an ultimatum to get engaged or break up. Mal Wright and Yoly Rojas, meanwhile, plan to test their relationship on the show.

The other two couples also plan to get in sync with each other in their respective relationships.

Initially, this version of the show was not supposed to be a spinoff but a sequel. Creator Chris Coelen revealed in an interview with Variety how it was later decided that they would go for a spinoff. He said that his team and Netflix made the decision to create a new series. Chris added that it made sense to them to differentiate the two shows - Ultimatum: Marry or Move On and Ultimatum: Queer Love.

Noting that both shows have "slight nuances," the creator said that the shows are "similar in their DNA." He said that having different hosts for the different versions made sense to them as they discussed the show.

The Ultimatum: Queer Love is executive produced by Coelen, Eric Detwiler, Sarah Dillistone, and Stephanie Boyriven. The official synopsis for the series reads:

"One partner is ready for marriage, the other may have doubts. An ultimatum is issued. And in just over eight weeks, each couple will either get married, or get out, after they each choose new potential partners in a life-changing opportunity to get a glimpse of two different futures."

The first part of the series gained quite good coverage and viewership, with many drawn to this rocky drama. While there could still be a second season to the original show, terming this as a spinoff gives it a chance to round this up to a multi-season show.

The first four episodes of The Ultimatum: Queer Love will be available for streaming on Netflix on May 24, 2023.
