What to expect from The Voice Season 22 Episode 9?
While NBC has not announced which team members of The Voice will participate in this week's battle round, the promo featured Blake's team competing against each other in the round. Both Bodie and Jaeden Luke will perform Justin Bieber's As Long as You Love Me.
Two members of two different coaches' teams will compete against each other to grab a spot in the next round of The Voice, the knockout rounds.
How does the battle round of The Voice work?
At the end of the Blind auditions, each coach ends up with 14 contestants each. The teams are then allotted some advisors for the battle round. Jazmine Sullivan is advising Team Legend this season, while Charlie Puth advises Team Camila. Blake’s team has Jimmie Allen, and Team Gwen has Sean Paul.
In the battle round, each coach would put two of their singers in a singing match and the coach would have to pick one of the two. The losing singer can be picked by any other coach on the show (stolen) or even be saved by their own coach to remain a part of the same team. Each judge can only save one contestant from their team and steal only one other singer from the three remaining coaches.
By the end of the round, 9 contestants move forward to the knockouts, with one saved, one stolen and 7 winners.
So far, Blake has picked Austin Montgomery over Tanner Fussell. Gwen picked Rowan Grace over Jillian Jordyn and John chose Valarie Harding over Dia Malai. Camila initially chose Morgan Myles over Steven McMorran but then decided to save the latter singer.
What happened on The Voice last week?
Jazmine asked Valerie Harding and Dia Malai to sing Blake Shelton's song Bust Your Windows in the battle. The other coaches liked Dia's performance but John liked Valerie's electricity while singing the song. He announced Valerie to be the winner of the round.
The episode description reads,
"The battle rounds begin as the coaches enlist music industry powerhouses Jimmie Allen, Sean Paul, Charlie Puth and Jazmine Sullivan to prepare their artists to go head-to-head in hopes of advancing; each coach has one steal and one save."
Jillian Jordyn and Rowan Grace sang Lauren Spencer-Smith's Fingers Crossed. The two have been best friends since they were teenagers. Gwen liked Rowan’s tastefulness and noticed how Jilian was nervous at the beginning of the song. She chose Rowan over Jilian.
Nashville residents Steven and Morgan competed against each other from Camila's team with the song Wrecking Ball. Camilla chose to save both the singers in the round.
The Voice airs every Monday and Tuesday on NBC at 8 pm ET.
