The Walmart Birkin Bag is getting a lot of attention on social media and is also being called Wirkin. A report by North Jersey on December 29, 2024, stated that it is an alternate choice for the Hermès Birkin handbag, which is not affordable for some compared to Wirkin, which is budget-friendly.

According to Fashion United, the Walmart Birkin Bag first went viral due to TikTok influencers, who were spotted praising the product for its design, which resembled the bags of Hermès.

The original Hermès bags come in a price range between $9,000 and $500,000. They have been manufactured in France and are used by well-known faces from the world of fashion and entertainment, including Melania Trump, who has been captured carrying a Hermès bag on different occasions.

Furthermore, the Hermès bags are always available in limited supply due to which it is always recommended to purchase one as soon as possible.

Pierre-Alexis Dumas, an artistic director for Hermès, addressed the same in an interview with CBS News on December 27, 2024, saying that the bag's creation process is different as they are hand-crafted by trained artisans. He further stated:

"It makes me smile that this is – a diabolical – marketing idea that can only come out of people obsessed with marketing. But we don't have a marketing department at Hermès. Whatever we have, we put on the shelf, and it goes."

According to North Jersey, Wirkins are currently available on Walmart's official website under various names such as KAMUGO Genuine Leather Handbags Purse for Women. As per the US Sun, they are priced between $78 and $102, which is 99% cheaper compared to the original Hermès bags.

The bag's structure is similar to a trapeze and has a structured silhouette alongside horizontal strapped clasps. The new product arrives at a time when Walmart's website already features a huge collection of Hermès bags, listed by third-party sellers.

The price of the original bags is high specifically since premium materials are used to make them. Compared to this one, Wirkin does not feature the name Hermès on top and does not use the H logo that appears in the original product.

A report by the New York Post stated that the Walmart bags have been already sold out, which has contributed to its popularity. On the other hand, it has also increased concerns among experts, who believe that the arrival of Wirkins might negatively impact Hermès. While speaking to Newsweek on December 30, 2024, luxury reseller Michael Mack said:

"Walmart's Birkin replica might offer a similar look at a low price, but as someone who stands firmly behind authenticity, I see it as part of a larger problem."

Mack mentioned that Wirkins might damage the "craftsmanship and exclusivity" of the original products. Lifestyle resale store True Fashionistas founder Jennifer Johnson also spoke to Newsweek, saying that although Wirkins is an affordable choice for people, it might reduce the value of the Hermès bags at the same time.

According to Times Now, the Wirkins might bring legal issues for Walmart considering that the Birkin bag's design is legally protected. Meanwhile, Hermès is yet to share a response to the viral trend of Wirkins.
