"Arlene and I have safely evacuated with our animals except for Bobo escaped as we were leaving. We’re praying he’ll be ok and that our community in Serra Retreat will survive these terrible fires"
Bobo is the actor's cat. According to a report by BBC dated December 11, 2024, Van Dyke and Cher were among the thousands of residents who were ordered to evacuate from Malibu after the wildfire that started in Malibu Canyon at 22:50 local time on December 9, 2024.
Witnesses told KABC-TV that the house belonging to Dick Van Dyke's neighbour had caught fire, however, the actor's house was untouched. Additionally, after updating fans about his safety, the Matlock actor posted a video of his cat Bobo mentioning that he hopes the feline is okay.

According to a report by Daily Mail dated August 2023, Dick Van Dyke bought his Malibu home for $750,000 in September 1986 and its value in 2023 amounted to $7.7 million. The actor made multiple renovations to the property comprising three bedrooms and two bathrooms for the 37 years he has owned it.
The report mentioned that Van Dyke travels around the gated community and his property via a vintage caravan and golf buggy. His Malibu home spans 2,226 square feet and was built 50 years ago in 1973.
