Fast X, also known as Fast & Furious 10, is an upcoming action movie of the popular Fast & Furious franchise. The first part of the finale of the franchise is directed by Louis Leterrier and written by Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau. The movie is set to release on May 19, 2023, and many fans have been wondering where the filming took place. Fast X was shot in several countries, including Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Italy.

Fast X's production budget was initially reported to be $300 million in May 2022, which was later revised to $340 million in November of the same year. The cast was reportedly paid $100 million for their involvement, including $20 million for Vin Diesel.

Other costs that contributed to the budget included production costs caused by global inflation, and charges for pandemic testing requirements, mandated by COVID-19 safety protocols.

Principal photography began on April 21, 2022, with several cast members confirmed to reprise their roles.

As for the shooting, Portugal, in particular, provided several locations, including the north and central regions of the mainland and the Lisbon area. Viseu and Vila Real were just some of the cities that served as filming locations. The mayor of Viseu also confirmed that the headquarters for the film's shooting would be based in his city, located in the central region of Portugal, approximately 180 miles from Lisbon.

The Penoita area, in the municipality of Vouzela, was also confirmed to be one of the stretches of road that would be used. Reportedly, the road offers stretches with and without asphalt.

In addition to Portugal, Fast X was also filmed in the United Kingdom and Italy. Several landmarks and locations were used in the film, including Via Italo Belardi, Gianicolo Hill, Ponte Umberto I, The Colosseum, and Via della Cordonata in Italy, as well as Aldeadávila Dam in Spain.

Sofia Noronha, the film's producer who also produced House of the Dragon, was impressed with Portugal's potential as a great filming site. Noronha cited the weather, affordable prices, labor, and flexibility of the Portuguese as reasons for this.

The producer also mentioned the creation of tax incentives by the Portuguese government in 2018 as one of the main reasons for the presence of more foreign film productions, like Fast X, in Portugal.

Fast X stars Vin Diesel, Jason Momoa, and Brie Larson amongst others

The film features multiple returning cast members. They include Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, Scott Eastwood, John Cena, Jason Statham, and Charlize Theron.

It is worth noting that Rodriguez recently starred in the critically acclaimed Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Amongst Thieves.

Meanwhile, new cast members include Jason Momoa, Rita Moreno, Alan Ritchson, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson, and Portuguese actor Daniela Melchior.

Melchior had previously played Ratcatcher 2 in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, along with fellow Fast X cast members Rooker and Cena. She is also set to star in the thriller Marlowe with Liam Neeson, which will be released later in 2023. She even played a small role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Apart from the upcoming Fast and Furious film, Jason Momoa is set to star in Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom, while Brie Larson will be seen in The Marvels.

The first part of the finale of the Fast and Furious franchise will be directed by Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk), following the departure of Justin Lin earlier this spring.

Fast X is expected to be a great addition to the Fast and Furious franchise, with fans eager to see what the latest installment has in store. The film is scheduled to premiere on May 19, 2023.
