After going through a lot of suffering and despair, her character deserves some sort of peace and resolution in her life. She is living in Alexandria along with her friends, the likes of Maggie, Gabriel, Aaron, and Lydia.

She made her first appearance in episode three of season one, titled ‘Tell it to the Frogs,’ at first she was shown as a scared woman suffering a lot of abuse and beatings from her husband. However, after the deaths of her husband and her daughter Sophia; she became a strong and a sophisticated woman.
Carol went to great lengths to protect her friends, even burning two people alive as they were exposed to a certain kind of infection, something of which the group leader Rick Grimes disapproved and banished her. But she stayed loyal to her group until the very end and showed utmost fearlessness making her character development one of the badass character developments of the show. What happens to Carol at the end of The Walking Dead?
Carol freed her captive friends from the clutches of the Commonwealth with her friends; she helped in fighting off the walkers that had swarmed the Commonwealth and saved its citizens from certain doom, She shot Lance Hornsby in the neck when he tried to gun down both Daryl and Carol. Carol then helped in the arrest of Governor Pamela Milton and threw off her corrupt regime. Carol then returns to Alexandria, where they have happy reunions and lunch.
After a leap of one year, she is shown living a peaceful life after suffering so many atrocities in her life, so it's a breath of fresh air for the fans to see her happy and content with her life. However, the saddest moment occurred when Carol bid her emotional goodbye to Daryl, who is leaving Alexandria for some unknown reason which will be later explored. The most beautiful part of her journey was the friendship she shared with Daryl which stayed strong until the end of the series.
Will Carol return?
After the ending of the show, fans speculated that Carol might not return as actor Melissa McBride’s had exited from the Daryl-Carol spin-off. But when the questions were raised, the producers and the actors stated that Carol’s story is not yet finished and might return to The Walking Dead universe after some time. And a reunion between Carol and Daryl is still on the cards.
