Nick Cannon was born on October 8, 1980, in San Diego, California. He was brought up in large part by his paternal grandfather, who he raised with his father. He was a teenager who was affiliated with the Lincoln Park Bloods gang. He opted out of his affiliations after losing a close friend.

He graduated from Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley in 1998, where he served as president of the African Student Coalition. Cannon's first break was when he making a stand-up comedy on his father's local program of public cable TV.

After Nickelodeon, Cannon appeared in movies like Drumline (2002), Love Don't Cost a Thing (2003) and The Underclassman (2005), which he co-wrote and produced. In 2010, Cannon started hosting the morning program on the 92.3 NOW FM in New York, but he left due to health concerns in 2012.

Although he was drawn to show business, his mother insisted him to finish high school first. In 1998, he graduated from Monte Vista high school and started appearing in comedy clubs in Los Angeles.

An agent found him there and got him a job with the TV channel Nickelodeon, where he appeared as a warm-up act in the hit show All That. Cannon was so successful that he received his own comedy show from Nickelodeon in 2002.
