Ronnie Ortiz-Magro made a surprise appearance on the show "Jersey Shore: Family Vacation" on March 23, 2023, after leaving the MTV show in 2021. A week after Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola, his on-again, off-again ex-girlfriend, revealed she would appear in the Jersey Shore spinoff, Ortiz-Magro made his comeback.
The episode included a life update from Ortiz-Magro, 37. "I feel like I needed a change of scenery and just a change of pace in my life," Ronnie said. "I've decided to move from Los Angeles to Miami and open up a new business. It's a sneaker store called SneakerClinic."
The former MTV star also disclosed that he relocated with his 4-year-old daughter. It is unknown if Ortiz-Magro will appear in any upcoming episodes of the show. Giancola gave an explanation of her decision to skip the reboot of Family Vacation as it made its 2018 debut. "I am not the same as I was when I was 22." "At 31, I am currently extremely happy in every aspect of my life and want to avoid potentially toxic situations," she posted this on Instagram.
She added, "However, it was a difficult decision as I love my roomies. I've decided to focus on me, my future, and what truly makes me happy. I will forever be grateful to the Jersey Shore and everything it has brought to me! I've just decided to live my life for me these days."
Why did Ronnie Magro leave “Jersey Shore”?
Soon after being detained on domestic violence charges in May 2021, the veteran MTV personality announced his departure from the long-running reality series "Jersey Shore: Family Vacation." In April 2021, Ronnie was detained in Los Angeles before being freed on a $100,000 bond.
"After talking to the team at MTV, we have mutually agreed that I will step away from the show while I seek medical treatment for mental health issues that I’ve ignored for too long," On May 13, 2021, he posted a story on Instagram. "My No. 1 goal now is facing my struggles head on. This process will be difficult, but my No. 1 priority is to get healthy and be the best man and the best father I can be for my daughter."
"I am grateful for all of my real friends! Thank you for being by my (side) the last few weeks. I take all experiences as lessons," he shared following his release. "You learn who really cares about you when you’re down and out, and then you see who doesn’t!"
Scott E. Leemon and Leonard Levine, the former reality star's attorneys, later disclosed to Us Weekly that "the L.A. County District Attorney’s office and the L.A. City Attorney’s office determined that criminal charges were not warranted against Ronnie related to the incident that occurred in April."
What happened between Ronnie Magro and Jen Harley?
Ronnie and his then-girlfriend Jen Harley announced that they were expecting a girl on December 26, 2017. Ariana Sky Magro, their daughter, was born in April 2018. The relationship between Ortiz-Magro and Harley reportedly ended in late April 2018. He started a month-long rehab program for alcoholism and depression in January 2019.
Harley, who has a career as a realtor and also made an appearance on “Jersey Shore” when she was romantically involved with Ortiz-Magro, was arrested in June 2018 as a result of physical fights she had with Ortiz-Magro when he visited her in Las Vegas. Us Weekly described the relationship between Ortiz-Magro and Harley as "on-off" in February 2019.
However, it was later revealed that Ortiz-Magro had called the police in January 2019—a few days after a rumored altercation at a New Year's Eve party—claiming Harley had assaulted him at home and caused him physical harm. Following a physical altercation with Harley on October 4, 2019, Ortiz-Magro was taken into custody in Los Angeles and charged with felony domestic violence.
Ortiz-Magro was taken into custody on April 22, 2021, in Los Angeles on brand-new felony domestic violence charges. Because of a domestic violence incident that occurred in October 2019, Ortiz-Magro was under probation at the time of his arrest. Later on, Ronnie got released but chose to focus on his mental health and his daughter.
Who has custody of Ronnie’s daughter with Harley?
On his unexpected appearance on the episode of "Jersey Shore: Family Vacation" on March 23, 2023, Ortiz-Magro revealed that he has full custody of his young daughter, who will turn 5 this month.
"It's a lot of hard work, but she keeps me balanced," Ronnie explained. "She calms my world. I didn't have the perfect situation with her mother, but she's turned out perfect. She's so sweet and so polite." Ortiz-Magro is open about his previous "bad situation" while working on his sobriety and putting his family first.
In court documents obtained by the U.S. Sun, the former reality star is listed as having primary physical custody of Ariana, who resides with him during the school years. Ortiz-Magro and Harley have agreed to abstain from alcohol while spending time with their daughter during the summer, when they will switch off every two weeks.
"During the school year, the mother will have custody every second, third, fourth, and fifth weekend from Friday at 6 p.m. until Sunday at 6 p.m.," the judge ruled, adding, "Parents have joint legal custody, and in the event of a disagreement, the father shall have tiebreaker authority after making a good faith effort to meet and confer."
