The highly anticipated Marvel action-adventure series Secret Invasion is all set to premiere on June 21, 2023, on the streaming service Disney+. The series will comprise six episodes and feature the beloved Marvel character Nick Fury as he uncovers a plot by a group of shapeshifting Skrulls to infiltrate Earth in positions of power, enlisting Everett K. Ross, Maria Hill, and Talos to stop them and save humanity.
The synopsis for Secret Invasion, as per Marvel, reads:
"In Secret Invasion, set in the present-day MCU, Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill, and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity."
The trailer for the thriller series has managed to grab the attention of many, with the Marvel fandom lauding it for its intriguing dark, and serious tone. Many have also compared the shows' aesthetics to similar to that of the acclaimed 2014 film Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Marvel boss Kevin Feige described Secret Invasion as "dark" and "gritty" and fans are already expecting an action-packed and engrossing storyline.
Secret Invasion houses an incredibly talented cast that includes the likes of Samuel L. Jackson (who plays the lead role of Nick Fury), Ben Mendelsohn (who plays the role of Talos), and Cobie Smulders (who plays the role of Maria Hill) in leading roles. The show will also feature Martin Freeman's Everett Ross and Don Cheadle's Rhodey and newcomers Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir.
The show is created by Kyle Bradstreet and directed by Ali Selim, with Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Jonathan Schwartz, Samuel L. Jackson, and Brian Tucker acting as the executive producers for the same.
Secret Invasion filming locations: West Yorkshire, London, and more
Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, UK
According to IMDb, the majority of the scenes in the show were filmed in the quaint and beautiful town of Halifax, West Yorkshire, UK. In an interview with the Yorkshire Post, the series' location manager Emma Jane Richards shared that they needed a square for their show and The Piece Hall fitted the bill perfectly.
Richards applauded the lovely memorial and commented on the authorities' friendliness, saying:
"There is absolutely no way this project would have happened without the full support and engagement of everybody at Calderdale Council. That is a huge part of why this has been such a success."
She went on to say that many of the locals they met during filming were interested in what was going on and offered their assistance to the team and cast. Richards described her experience, saying:
"I love it when you bring a crew and they all get involved with the local community and the local shops. I think it's just a lovely place to be. I can't get over how friendly Halifax has been. People are curious and interested but it's always very friendly and we try to always be friendly as well so we've had a lovely time. I think Halifax is such a friendly place. It feels very much like a community."
She continued:
"I wouldn't have found Dean Clough if it hadn't been for a conversation with a local."
To note, the location has also been host to several other television shows including Happy Valley, A Touch of Frost, Gentleman Jack, and The English Game.
London, Greater London, England, UK
Secret Invasion was also shot in London, United Kingdom. The City is a hub for film shoots and has been host to some incredibly popular shows and films throughout the years including Ted Lasso, Netflix's Bridgerton, Black Mirror, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Crown, and the entire Harry Potter franchise.
In addition to the aforementioned locations, some scenes for the six-part series were also shot in Atlanta, Georgia, and Los Angeles, California in the USA. However, the nature of the scenes shot in these locations has not yet been revealed.
Secret Invasion is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on June 21, 2023.
