The Simpsons is an American animation comedy series created by Matt Groening for Fox and produced by Gracie Films and 20th Television. It depicts American life satirically through the Simpson family. The family lives in a fictional town called Springfield and pokes fun at society, TV, and life in general.

Groening came up with the family when asked to make animated shorts with James L. Brooks.

He made them dysfunctional and named them after his clan. The following year, these shorts were incorporated into The Tracey Ullman show. The Simpsons became a half-hour program in 1989, which soon grew popular.

On January 26, 2023, it was announced that The Simpsons will continue for its 35th and 36th seasons, running until the 2024–25 TV season. These two seasons will include a total of 51 episodes. Seven of them are from season 34, and the remaining 44 will be made in the production cycle for the upcoming seasons, making the overall episode count reach 801. The 35th season started airing on October 1, 2023.
