White Men Can't Jump, currently streaming on Hulu, premiered on Friday, May 19, at 12:01 am ET. A reboot of a 1992 of the same name, this sports comedy series is about two Los Angeles-based street basketball players who initially cannot stand one another because of their opposite nature, but eventually develop a good bond.

White Men Can't Jump stars Sinqua Walls as basketball player Kamal Allen and Industry Baby singer Jack Harlow as fellow basketball player Jeremy (in his acting debut). Teyana Taylor as Kamal's girlfriend Imani, Laura Harrier as Jeremy's girlfriend Tatiana, and the late Lance Reddick as Kamal's father and former coach Benji Allen, who has multiple sclerosis, complete the main cast.

Things started rolling for White Men Can't Jump in November 2021 when music videos and commercials director Calmatic was signed as the helmer, after which the casting went on till May last year with Reddick, Taylor, and Harrier being the last ones to be added to the team.

Tommy Maddox-Upshaw handled the camera while the cast and crew hit the ground on May 11, 2022, in Los Angeles. Within July 2022, they called it a wrap, and in January, the post-production process commenced for White Men Can't Jump (2023 film).

White Men Can't Jump (2023 film) tapped Los Angeles, its neighborhood Venice Beach for a majority of shooting sequences

In the 2023 film, we see how Kamal and Jeremy hustle basketball players on the court and make some cash out of it. So evidently, White Men Can’t Jump focuses on the hustle culture and street basketball of Los Angeles.

This meant that the team did not have to venture into any exotic location to film the feature and rather stayed in the Californian city during the entire shooting schedule. They also utilized the Los Angeles neighborhood of Venice, tapping the beach and basketball courts of the Venice Beach Recreation Center.

Venice Beach has something for all, whether you are a foodie, an art enthusiast, or simply a wanderer. A coastline-located place in Los Angeles’ Westside area, Venice Beach can be covered in a day at the maximum. The pretty murals, canals (like, Aldebaren Canal, Altair Canal, Grand Canal, Cabrillo Canal, Coral Canal, Lion Canal, and Venus Canal), beach (including the muscle beach), and the Ocean Front Walk are some of its landmarks.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, the White Men Can't Jump team was seen shooting in Baldwin Hills, which is also called the Black Beverley Hills. For the city lad Calmatic, it was kind of a work-from-home experience. About why he chose LA, he said:

“Being somebody from LA, I think one of the best experiences I have, or one of the things I look forward to the most being a creator is just exposing my city to the world. And also the real LA, the LA that we know.”

He added:

“Just thinking of seeing Jack and Sinqua driving down Crenshaw, seeing West Angeles Church in the background. You know what I'm saying? Because that's the same feeling I had watching the original. You see them driving down Crenshaw and you saw the bowling alley that's now a Starbucks and all that kind of stuff.”

Apart from White Men Can't Jump, productions like the upcoming Barbie, Heat (1995), and American Pie (1999), among others, were filmed in Venice Beach. Meanwhile, Los Angeles was the base for Succession (2018–2023), the upcoming Oppenheimer, Barry (2018–2023), and Air (2023), among others.

White Men Can't Jump is currently streaming on Hulu.
